10 Mysterious Places on Earth Where Commoners are Barred from Visiting

There are many gorgeous places in the world, where travelers would like visiting, either those are mysterious or not. You don’t need huge money or no need to be such an explorer who wants to travel throughout the world. An ordinary man would also like to visit beautiful places. There are many such places on earth where common people can’t go easily. They are barred from visiting those mysterious places due to some political or religious causes. 

The following list has 10 such places where ordinary people are prohibited from being there.

1. Varosha, Famagusta

Varosha is still a prohibited place of the Cypriot city of Famagusta. It was one of the most favorite tourist spot in the world, but it is now a ghost area due to Turkish invasion in 1974. Inhabitants of Varosha had run away when Turkish invaded the place, and is still under control of Turkish army. Entry is forbidden to common people and explained as ghost city.

2. RAF Menwith Hill, UK

Royal Air Force Menwith Hill is a communication and intelligence support service station which provides the services to the UK and US. It is established near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. It is known as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world containing extensive satellite ground station. 

3. Fort Knox, USA

Fort Knox is situated in Kentucky South, known as a United States Army post, extended upto 109,000 acre, now holding the Army human resources Centre of Excellence to take in the United States Army Accessions Command, United States Army Cadet Command and the Army Human Resources Command. The U.S. Army Armor School and the U.S. Army Armor Centre were located in Fort Knox, utilized by both the Marine Corps and the Army to provide training to crews on the M1 Abrams called main battle tank.  The Fort Knox is also described as the United States Bullion Depository which is used to store a large segment of the United States’ official gold reserves. And entry of commoners is banned from visiting the site. 

4. Metro-2, Russia

Metro-2, a secret underground metro system in Russia, looks like similar to the Public Moscow Metro. The system purportedly started to build when Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union and the code of this system was D6 named by the KGB. The operation of Metro-2 is still controlled by Ministry of Defence and the Main Directorate of Special Programmes. It is believed that Metro-2 is longer than the public Metro system, containing four lines, and extended upto 50 to 200 m deep.  

5. Ise Grand Shrine, Japan

The Ise Grand Shrine is situated in Ise City, Mie Prefecture of Japan. It is also known as Japan’s most holy Shinto shrine devoted to sun goddess Amaterasu. There are more than hundred shrines since 4th Century BC. All shrines are built up by solid cypress wood using interlocking joints. They didn’t use nails. Being one of Shinto’s holiest places, it is supposedly known as the home of the sacred mirror. The entry of common public is restricted there. 

6. Ni’ihau, Hawaii

It is an alien island in Hawaii. Outsiders are restricted to be there because Brighamia insignis, a critically endangered species, are found there. Inhabitants of Ni’ihau don’t pay rent to live and meat is also free for them. There is no facility of electricity, no cemented road and no telephone services. They use solar system to get electricity in their house.  There is no transportation system to move from one place to another. They use horse and bicycles to reach the destination. No plumbing systems are installed there. There is a catchment area which collects rainwater to meet water requirement. Since 1987, people are allowed to visit beach area of island, but they are barred from contacting any resident of Ni’ihau. 

7. Surtsey Island, Iceland

Surtsey, a volcanic island, was formed in a volcanic explosion which started 130 meters under the sea level, and get to the surface on 14th November, 1963. The Island is situated in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. The eruption was going on until 5th June, 1967. Since then, it started to reduce in size due to wave erosion. Scientists are investigating the Island to know about mysterious geographic incidents and as a result, common people are not allowed to visit the place. 

8. Vatican Secret Archives, Vatican City

The Vatican Secret Archives, described as the central repository, is located in the Vatican City. It also holds many things like correspondence, the state papers, papal account books and several additional documents which the church has built up over the centuries. The archives are under supervision of The Pope until his resignation or death. Then his successor will control the archives. 

9. Area 51, Southern Nevada

Area 51 is a military base, extended around 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas in Nevada. This is normally used as the Training range and Nevada Test. However, in some special-cases, public says that it is typically a kind of conspiracy. 

It is supposed that scientists try to extract design information and knowledge from alien technology to reproduce anything based on the same extracted information. Commoners are abandoned from visiting Area 51.

10. Tomb of Genghis Khan

Nobody could know the location of the tomb of Genghis Khan who died in 1227. It is the matter of research. Genghis Khan never wanted to be found after he buried. His burial place should be undiscovered. Genghis Khan’s body was given back to Mongolia on his death, and most of the people assume that his body was buried near about the Onon River to his home town in the Khentii Aimag. To keep the burial place undiscovered, the slaves who made the tomb were killed by soldiers, and then they killed themselves.

Interesting article, however most countries would have government-restricted areas that you cannot visit.
