Steem stats: number of active users, and number of posts per day

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

I came across some interesting graphs over at "SteemTool":
https://tool.steem.world/Post/Stat

From the looks of it, both the number of active users and content produced have been steadily declining since the beginning of the year:

What is your take on this graph? Do these numbers seem correct? Is the number of current active Steem users below 10K?

It looks like HF20 had a strong impact on the average number of daily posts per author. It was hiking up to 2, but now seems to be sinking to 1.5:

It's also interesting that the total number of posts per day looks quite similar to the STEEM exchange rate:

No, it is said to be about around 50k.
Not everyone who posts, posts ever day.

Active user on a day is anyone who does any action registrated via blockchain, including resteem, voting and of course posting.
In future only playing steemmonsters will also be something we see more often by accounts and those have zero comments, posts and votes.

Definitely. A bit the question: Bots which shut down or users who couldn't comment anymore due to RCs? Should be definitely both and the second one in my opinion underestimated by larger users.

Many got here during peak of cryptos (jan 2018). also posting was much more incentivized then because it earned you a lot more due to the higher value of Steem
so not super surprising there is some similarity between the graphs but it also isn't anywhere close to a perfect match

Yes true, the number depends on the time horizon. I guess this graph measures the "daily active users" (although I don't see it specified on the site), whereas monthly active users may be a more meaningful approximation of the number of Steemians.

Good point. The tripling of authors between Dec 2017 and Feb 2018 also coincides with a steep decrease in the average daily posts per author. Now the number of authors is back to pre-peak level, but their productivity is not. Hmm I am curious now, I'll look for more detailed data on this.

From, what you linked - thanks for that by the way.

DAU measures the "stickiness" of an online product by answering the question, "How many unique product users visit the product daily?"

So it would be closer to

And those are more closely mirrored in the roughly to be said 50k users.

does not work.

You have to write STOP and nothing else. @steemitboard is a bit touchy at interpreting comments.

I tried that here and here, but no dice.
