When i began to understand how to make websites a few years ago, i studied about SEO (search engine optimization), and realized that the rankings are based on relevance and user friendliness, and that the truth isn’t a factor at all. If you own the technical knowledge of SEO, you are able to bring 100% bullshit to a number 1 ranking on certain keywords.
So how will Steemit bring better information to the web? Here it’s possible to post bullshit too, and when it becomes popular it will be seen as the truth by many people. The key can be found in the reason why people spread information that is not true or partly true.
The majority of available information on the web is written for financial reasons. Writers with the ability to rank high in Google will only write about easy to monetize subjects and will turn the truth in another direction to boost their sales. This leads to a lot of commercially created information in the top rankings of google on many keywords.
When i just started making websites, i created one, wrote useful and good content and ranked high in google. When i wanted to monetize this website i found out there were no affiliate programs fitted to this subject where i could earn enough. A few months later i deleted this website and the content was not available on the web anymore. This day i realized how many useful information will never be shared on the web, because it is not possible to monetize it (ok, you can maybe make a few penny’s a month via Adsense).
Steemit will give writers and other content creators a chance to earn good money on popular content, without the need to advertise. This means it doesn’t matter what the keywords are and if there are products or services related to the subject. Furthermore there is no use to ‘change’ the truth in order to make your advertisement more attractive.
For example, when there is a common disease and their are two ways to cure it: One way is to take some pills and the other is to eat a banana every day. Many of the writers will say that the pills are better or will not mention the option to eat banana’s in order to make more sales on their pills. With Steemit it doesn’t matter witch option you promote, you will earn the same amount of money when popularity is the same, so it makes more sense to tell the truth.
Furthermore Steemit is an blockchain based platform, it is public and decentralized. A public blockchain is immutable and there is no censorship, so this means that the posted information cannot be changed or deleted and there is no influence from governments or other powerful parties.

Well, on steemit its also about writing popular and entertaining topics, not about well written educational ones. People also started writing articles optimized for steemit and its audience. People will go where the money is and I fear it'll be the same here on steemit.
Yes, i agree that people will always write where the money is, but in Steemit you can probably make money on a much wider group of subjects
Affiliate marketing and SEO work would be a lot more enjoyable to do if the Truth was the determining factor for success. It is the pills that sell not the bananas. Lets share our truth here on Steemit and forget the pills if the bananas will work :)
