Google is developing technology for fusion energy

The combination of computer power and human judgment gives better opportunities for research into nuclear fusion.

On the photo you can see the magnitude poles that hold the plasma when experimenting with fusion energy. The picture is from 2014, when US company Lockheed Martin announced that they had a breakthrough in their fusion energy research.

Google has, in collaboration with an unnamed company that works with nuclear fusion, developed a computer algorithm that will make it much faster to experiment with plasma in fusion technology.

In fusion technology, atoms are combined at extreme temperatures, which create huge amounts of energy.
But the process is almost impossible to calculate, says Ted Baltz, who works for Google's accelerated science team:
It's beyond what we can solve even with computer power at Google level, he tells the English newspaper.

In order to compensate, Google has instead combined their enormous computing power with human judgment to find new solutions to complex issues.

A combination of human and machine

Instead of relying solely on Google's raw computing power, the company developed a system that they call The Optometrist Algorithm, which combines huge computer resources with input from fusion technology experts.
Experts select the scenarios that look promising for the plasma experiments and allow the computer to experiment.
Co-operation between man and machine means that calculations that have taken up to several months now can now be done in just a few hours.

Fusion technology in the future?

The significance of the new system should not be underestimated. Fusion technology can become extremely important for the future energy production of the planet as it will be a source of energy that is boundless, safe and environmentally friendly.
Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to create a functioning fusion reactor that is close to being commercially available. It can therefore take decades and cost many billion before we see results.
Computers that can cut so much during the experiments time are therefore only an advantage.
One of the largest projects of nuclear fusion experimentation is now the ITER project in the South of France. Here, many of the world's nations have invested around 130 billion dollars in development. One expects to be able to produce the first plasma in 2025.

When I worked at google all I was thinking about my all genre free food cafeteria ...
Google has a calculative mind of a millioan tesla or einstein .. they will be able to do that .. hope that use it for good stuff though

Fusion technology is becoming a thing already. Many countries are investing billions of dollars in the development of R&D linked to such technologies.

I'm new to steemit. I'm from Ukraine. I try my best to make money on this.
