Unclassified: the reasons everyone should be concerned about the Nunes memo.

Hello my friends and fellow steemians. I just wanted to post something i think important regarding the Nunes memo. Whatever your political views, like, or dislike of our president, i am going to attempt to point out why this Memo, and the matter discussed within should have you a little concerned. It matters far more than party affilliations, more that the president, possibly more than eclipses the "Watergate" scandal of the seventies.

First, let me begin by thanking our founding fathers for creating such a beautiful example of democracy.... for with all it's pitfalls, partisanship, and at times what appears as a total breakdown of governance...they also crafted many, many checks and balances of each branch of our government. While we all know, the founding fathers didn't create the F.B.I, they did create the judiciary(also known as the dept. of Justice). Which in turn created the F.B.I. See the only way the DOJ was allowed to create the F.B.I. was if congress was given oversight over it through the Office of the Inspector General | Library of Congress. This was a check/balance of power over the DOJ so that it didn't have any more power than the other two branches of government. Like the Supreme Court, the F.B.I. agents are supposed to do their jobs impartially, regardless of political affilliations. The Office of the Inspector General | Library of Congress is there to correct any imbalances that may be found favoring one branch of government, or in this case one political party over another, or political candidate over another.

It is now the congress's job to investigate the claims brought forth by the Nunes memo. Most likely the Inspector General will call for an independent special counsel to investigate if those claims are true and bear any weight. If special counsel is called for it will most likely stop any investigation, or adjudications of the Mueller investigation until the claims are investigated and either found true, or dismissed as non evidentary.

Now here is why it should matter to every american regardless of where you stand on the issues regarding the Mueller investigation, and any other act of spying on american citizens:

       1. spying on an american citizen is a very serious event, and as such the DOJ, F.B.I, etc.. must have clear and evident
            proof for such an event.
       2. If the subjects brought forth in the memo are found true it sets preceedence for a wider, and clear criminal
investigation as well as criminal charges for those who requested the FISA in the first place through omittance of
the source of the payment for the Dossier, or lack of credibility.
       3. It allows for a wider investigation into the actions of those involved and increasing possibility of criminal charges.

       4. It corrects the imbalance within the F.B.I. and resets the institution to a neutral impartiality. which can help to
restore the public faith in the system.

I'll close with this.... If you think it ok for any person, political party, law enforcement agency, etc. to be able to manipulate and dictate who is targeted for surveilance, arrest, investigation, etc. for political or personal gain then you have already lost your freedom. When you grant someone that kind of unchecked authority there is no stopping their agenda or persuit of more power over you and your life. You should NEVER, and i mean NEVER surrender your rights for security... a person who does so is neither secure or free.... but one step closer to being a slave.

thank you for taking your time to read, i welcome your thoughts on the issue.

I absolutely agree! It doesn't matter which side of the political aisle you are on,you can't weaponize a law enforcement agency for political reasons.Trump has never been accused of a crime,Mueller actually investigating to FIND ONE! Isn't that crazy?

i have no problem with the investigation into the russian collusion. if it happened there should be consequences. where i have issue with the investigation is the premise upon which it appears to be founded. if the inspector general appoints a special counsel into the legimacy of the investigation and finds that it was brought forth based upon a false dossier paid for by the opposition i, by the same token believe the investigation should be shut down and criminal charges brought against those involved in obtaining a fisa warrant illegally for one and any other criminal acts that may have transpired against an american citizen...

I have a lot of problem with it,but the main one is this.Does anyone even remember how this whole BS started?Because Mueller and the Dems are changing the subject by the minute. It started with the DNC saying 'the Russians hacked our servers'. Right? So tell me why do we even investigate Trump? He definitely didn't hack the DNC! (nor the Russians) Why Mueller never even bothered to chase alleged Russian hackers? Why Mueller never even asked for the DNC servers to examine them?? The FBI did last year, but the DNC never gave them, the whole investigation should have ended right in that moment.

that is why i hope the inspector general calls for special counsel to investigate the investigation. that way there is an separate body that can move the investigation along and it doesn't look like trump is trying to shut it down... at this point trump is stuck with this circus. if it doesn't get shut down i look for the investigations to start coming out right about the midterm elections in an attempt to gain the house from the republicans this fall...
