I read an article this morning written by Taylor McAdams about a man called William Crawford an ex US Army officer who joined the Army in July 1942. During his time William Crawford did great thing for his troop from battles to battles. he was in his time a legend and a hero.
But William Crawford after retirement took up a job as a janitor in the US Air force academy, Colorado Springs without anyone knowing who he was. He was simply addressed as Mr Crawford by the cadets who occasionally salutes him as they walk past, he will speak to them only if they speak to him first. He wanted peace and quiet and he loved his job, he did it wholeheartedly and was loved by all. But they had their suspicion about him as he blended too well into the environment.
Though seems to be shy and insecure Mr Crawford was a brave, honest and a rare individual.
Unfortunately for him, his identity was blown one day when one of he cadet while reading a book about world war II came across the name William Crawford and his picture and how great this man was, detailing his life and battles and all the great things he did. Not long the entire class put two and two together and realized he was their very own janitor. And even when approached and asked, with the book in his hand staring down at his picture Mr Crawford simply replied '' it was a long time ago''
Moral of the story is, We should always humble ourselves no matter who we are or what we have. let people see the good in us and tell of our greatness and good rather than us using what we have to over power others.
I hope this story will inspire you as it did me.
