Asksteem: What determines how much will be paid out to the author of a post?

I have been getting more active on Steem and am really enjoying the platform. My understanding of the system has greatly increased since joining the community. One thing I still need clarification on is payouts. W hat determines the value of a payout? the number of upvotes, combined with the SP of those voters?

I have read a few steemit posts that explain the breakdown of curation and author rewards but I want to know specifically how author payout is calculated.

Why does a post for example with 10 upvotes make .$58 while a post with 90 upvotes makes $.24?

Any help is much appreciated!

I apologize if this question is redundant or has been covered before, I just couldn't find the specificity I was looking for in other posts.

Thanks,

MLS

Payout amount is based on how much steem power users who upvoted you have. So if you want large payouts you need to attract people with a lot of steem power. ( commonly known as whales)

Thank you for your reply! Do you know if there is a formula? I seem to remember reading something about steempower squared??

I think there is a curve that amplifies steem power but not sure how it works exactly.

hmmm that is interesting...if you ever find out be sure to post it here so people can reference it! Thanks for the info!

Good question mls I would like to know the answer as well.

Thanks, the above comments provide some answers!
