Here's Why You Shouldn't BEG!
1. Upvotes aren't free!
If you have been here for long enough, you know by now that every Steemian can only cast about 20-40 votes per day and still preserve the efficiency of their votes in terms of making something out of their vote otherwise their vote won't mean that much.
2. It's quite annoying!
Asking other Steemians to vote for you is only going to frustrate those who actually know that they're not supposed to waste their votes. If you actually write something useful and attractive, people will vote for it without you even asking them to do. They will even share it with others without you asking them to do!
3. Followers for follow-back are dead!
More importantly, if you beg people to follow you and let's say the number of your followers increases to well above 5000 which is a pretty big record at the current stages of Steemit, what use will it be if your followers won't even check their feed because they are too busy doing the same thing with their own follower's list?
If there is no authentic reason behind them following you, then they will most definitely not be interested to check your future articles. They will only follow you for a follow-back and after a short-while, they will probably unfollow you!
Check this out!
Look what happened to a user who has been going around commenting on other Steemian's posts begging them to upvote his latest post and follow him. @nickdavison commented on my post too. I didn't do or say anything because I was planning to write this article. But later I found out a fellow Steemian called @noisy has flagged his post.
Now his comment goes to the very bottom of my article and is hidden and you have to click on Reveal Comment in order to see it as you can see below. Flagging will also affect the user's reputation and the user won't be able to succeed. You can check this out for yourself HERE.
This is ultimately why you should NEVER EVER go around begging for upvotes and/or follows!!!

I agree that one should never beg for upvotes or follows on the comment section of posts here. I do however think the postpromotion channel on steem.chat can be pretty useful for new users, but just post it there, don't beg. I see some new users get a few dollars worth of upvotes, which could really be motivational to them ;) So in my opinion, there's a right place and time for everything, but the comment section is not one of these.
Anyway, great post! I hope this will make some of these comment spammers think twice before begging again ;)
I myself promote my posts in the chatroom so I agree with you. There's a time and place for everything! Going around and posting comments on people's posts and begging for upvotes/follows is definitely not the way! :]
It's a good post. I so like this!
Please stop your game)
Look how bad this is

Upvoted!! And you didn't even have to ask lol . . . your logic makes perfect sense to me. I'm still relatively new here. Been here almost a month, and I'm starting to get into the swing of things.
I wouldn't want a "blind follow" for no reason except to get a follow. I would like followers to WANT to read my content. And I only follow people who INTEREST me. Makes sense!! Thank you for this common sense approach.
Besides, begging for votes from a whole bunch of people doing the same isn't going to advance the platform. It will only work to hinder it.
No worries and thank you! I'm quite new too! Only been here for about 2 months! :P
Always better to grow a garden than to try and develop a horde.
Exactly! :]
It just annoys the hell out of me when I spend a hour writing a nice piece and it is instantly responded to by someone saying:
"Great work, marvelous piece. I followed you, follow back steem on!"
I know right, I think that will annoy anyone. On YouTube it makes my blood boil when I pour my heart out in a video and all I get is sub for sub spam in return.
LOL! :]
Who cares if your post earns .01 cent or 1,000 dollars do it for fun and cause you like it.
Exactly! It's impossible to create valuable content if your mind is busy worrying about money! :]
Just like on YouTube how people beg for subscribers and sub for sub. Just like on YouTube, people will subscribe if they like your content, on here people will upvote and follow you if they like your posts
Exactly! :]
In my few days here, I've realized this. I want my growth to be as organic and interactive as possible.
That's great buddy :]
Ahhhh on number 1! I thought up voting was free. I've been upvoting everyone like a demon treating it like the "Like" button on Facebook lol Only these last couple of days the old light bulb started flickering and I began thinking maybe I should be more discerning with my votes :) Thanks for the confirmation!
Your voting power is down to 52%! You can check it HERE. Upvoting is not free! :]
Ohh its actually UP from 30% yesterday lol
52% is awesome!
Good info in here, I was not aware that I only had so many votes per time period or their value would decrease. I learn something new every day on here.
You have been upvoted and resteemed.
Go to https://steemd.com/@blaineb to see your voting power. It regenerates 20% per day.
Much appreciated for the heads up!
I prefer steemdb.com! It has a much more user-friendly interface! :]
I was just told that the number of maximally efficient votes is going to change to 10 votes per day after the next update of the software which is going to happen today apparently! :]
Told by who if I may ask?
By @noisy. You can check his comment HERE.
Actually this will change today, with hardfork 19. Every user will have only 10 votes per day with maximum power. The good news, that by default your vote will be 4 times stronger.
Yeah. I wrote a comment to this author, that he should stopped spamming other people.
People which have some SteemPower, should not be afraid of using it by flagging in cases when they see that someone behaves incorrectly.
Does it cost SteemPower to flag someone?
nope. Flagging is like negative voting. You just temporarily decrease your voting power, exactly like with voting.
Good to know. I didn't realize it cost any voting power to flag. Perhaps this is why people are hesitant to flag then? From what I recall when I first signed up, they explicitly say not to beg for votes or follows. I think it said it will result in being flagged. I don't see it happen very often.
It costs voting power just like voting! :]
Oh really? I didn't know that! Thanks heaps for the information! :]
I would recommend read 3 last posts about upcoming changes on official steemit blog: https://steemit.com/@steemitblog
Will definitely do! Thank you :]
Couldn't agree more.
Thank you! :]
Agreed
Great :]
Oh wow, I didn't know that there are limits to a vote! I guess the most important thing is that when we reply in comments on others we should spur the interest of the writer (or other steemians) on how interactive friendly we are, and eventually, we get real followers who might find our (of course) quality posts worth reading and re-steeming.
Isn't it, @msg768 ?
That's right buddy. You should keep an eye on your voting power. It's currently very close to 100%. You can check it HERE. You should make sure it's around 80% because it will recharge about 20% per day so if you don't use it, it will be wasted because it won't recharge! :]
oh ok. So the main thing is to maintained about 80% voting power on average per day?
I maintain mine above 80%. It recharges about 20% per day! :]
Man! That're tons to learn about Steemit! @___@
I would have thought this is just a simple social network LOL (N00b response)
I see a lot of this and to each his own but if you're honest, true and enjoy what you're doing well, it'll all come together in time. I think also that it'll have a better foundation and end up stronger as it should be. Enjoyed
I agree with you 100% :]

As someone new I can agree on all this!
When I posted my first ....post(?) a bunch of people told me that I should just follow-back-follow at the start to gain alot followers and make the start easier. But I kinda didn't wanna do that as I didn't want followers because they want followers too but instead followers who follow for the sake of following me.
I know it IS easier to just tell everyone "hey lets follow each other" and then by them resteeming your stuff you'd get some real followers even if most of the previous ones unfollow you.
It's just that I don't like the idea of doing stuff like that ^^' Also I kinda get discouraged to vote for someone who keeps saying "vote on me , follow me" in the comment section :x
Yep, I'm making life hard for myself XD
Exactly. Imagine if we all followed each other! LOL :]
home and new section would be pretty much the same then xD
Lmfao! :]]]
