Is $6.17 the new $7? I Just Joined Steemit and am Already Feeling......... Disappointed

in #steemit9 years ago

After much trepidation and consummate cajoling by various Waring factions regarding the constant state of flux that the digital currency market finds itself in, I have decided to join the legions that are flocking towards the new oasis that the steemit community represents.

It all seems abundantly.... Glorious .

I'm enthralled by the idea of belonging to a community which seemingly places content on a platform where posters may be able to turn their rantings into something more tangible than the obscure 'thumbs up' likes of Facebook or the loveless 'hearts' of the Instagram world.

Steemit purports to welcome one into a community where everyone can band together in creating a viable means of monetizing web content in the form of shares that can supposedly be turned into actual cash in hand. I've heard from many 'negative nancys' who have told me that even if I am able to gain a following and increase my holdings, it would take years to be able to turn these shares into any spendable currency. Well, lets see. I'm going to see what arguments actually hold water. Maybe I will be able to turn this into an actual monetary gain, maybe not.

After spending several years dabbling in digital currency swimming through the ebb and flow of market fluctuations while pouring time and resources into various mining operations, I'm interested to see if I am able to create funds through use of my 5th grade level writing skills. Rantings and ravings on Facebook produce little more than fractured relationships and potential alienation while making money for Zuckerberg's cronies. So, a platform where you are rewarded for your content contributions is a neat idea that I'm interested in exploring.

Everywhere you look on the web tells tales of people who have made thousands through steemit and tells you that you can get started on this road with $7 in your account just for joining. I figured I'd sign up and be well on my way to getting paid to write.
Only thing is, that seven dollars turned out to be about $6.17. Yup, I just now signed up to join the steemit community with a promise of $7 and soon after, I checked my account balance expecting to see seven bucks. However the valuation of steemit stock (or whatever) is calculated, I didn't even receive the signup bonus i was promised. The very second I logged on, I only had $6.17- which either means that the value fluctuates at such a rapid pace that 2 seconds later it can be worth 12% less, or steemit reneged on their illustrious promise of $7 and decided to give me $0.83 less.

So far, the pessimists are winning their argument. I'm already feeling... Disapointed

Maybe I should plug my litecoin mining operation back in.....

Seeing that you understand crypto currency markets, you understand that these currencies are volatile. So while right now the 7 day average of your account is a little under 7$ a couple weeks ago it would have been worth 10$ and in a week it could be 30$ that's how crypto markets work as I'm sure you're well aware... Now as far as signing up and instantly becoming wealthy from writing a few paragraphs... well most logical people should understand that isn't going to work for the majority of people. Just like the majority of people don't pick up a hockey stick and become an NHL player paid millions a year, it takes time and practice. That being said with some work and dedication you might just be able to be an average person that ends up making money from their content like I did myself. Good luck to you and I hope to see you post more!

i joined steemit when joining was worth $10. reddit doesn't pay me and i still use it. i feel the same way about steemit.

If you take a second look at your wallet, you are also given a STEEM POWER credit of 3.00. To quote what is STEEM POWER:

Influence tokens which earn more power by holding long term.
The more you hold the more you influence post rewards and earn for accurate voting."

This gives you ample "power and influence" to (1) post your contents; (2) upvote other people's post (you get rewards by doing that); (3) to comment or reply to the posts (again you get rewarded in case someone upvotes).

So you see, you were not "short-changed" if that's what you are implying. You still get the value of $7SD that was promised to you... and much more. I was one of the people who got $10 SD. And I'm glad I made the decision to join early on. Now all you have to do is how to make your wallet's value increase.

I would like to see you succeed here in #steemit that is why I will FOLLOW you. And here's more reasons why you should FOLLOW others too: https://steemit.com/steemit/@cjclaro/steemit-culture-to-follow-or-not-to-follow-that-s-the-usd15k-question
