MY PERSONAL CONFLICT: SHOULD I SELL MY UPVOTES? SMARTMARKET AND SMARTSTEEM

in #steemit7 years ago

Recently I placed my application in for SMARTSTEEM. My curation rewards are next to nothing and my posts don’t bring any significant monetary value.
SMARTSTEEM had a great idea. I sell them upvotes and in return every 2 days they send me some value back. It is not much but on most days nobody is looking at my posts. With Smartsteem in place I am making about 1 SBD a day and that is like a million dollars more than I usually make.
So my votes are gone the minute I get recharged. God knows what I am upvoting.
My usual habits were to actually read the posts, engage with author and often upvote comments on my post. For the past few days, I am not looking at posts because I have voting power. I am not engaging anyone. I am not upvoting comments.
STEEMIT stopped being fun.
I welcome opinions on this matter. Should steemit be a place where you disengage and sell your votes? Should I withdraw and re-engage on the platform? What would you do?

I personally prefer selling to minnowbooster, because you can set a limit to what voting power they can drain you down to. I have given them permission to use my vote only if my VP is at least 85%. I get a pretty good return when I'm not manually voting a lot. with your SP you can expect about 1.5 to 2 SBD a day depending on where you set the limit.

I feel in general it takes away from the spirit of steemit. Do you feel that way? Or are you comfortable with the idea? It just does not seem kosher.

Yep totally agree with that, but then again as you said :

I am making about 1 SBD a day and that is like a million dollars more than I usually make.

So it's about finding the balance. At first I was giving too much permission to minnowbooster and too many votes were going out and I wasn't being able to properly vote on comments and posts I like....so slowly i have decreased the amount I give out to them.

Getting great results from @steemdunk through Delegation, no need to sell your Votes.

Just looked at minnowbooster and steemdunk. Could not find a place on steemdunk where I could delegate SP. I think I can do do a 1000.
It is a bit unclear to me. I choose a plan, put your name down and it autovotes? Then you hope for reciprocity?

The autovote is a tool you can use to vote automatically your favorite authors, Delegation is completely separate and done through steemconnect...

Delegation URL: https://steemconnect.com/sign/delegateVestingShares?delegator=YOURNAMEHERE&delegatee=steemdunk&vesting_shares=100.000%20SP

Replace "YOURNAMEHERE" with your account name and replace "100.000" with the amount you'd like to delegate. Make sure to keep the "%20SP" as it represents a space and the Steem Power symbol. As soon as the operation is broadcasted, you will be automatically registered as a sponsor and will start receiving payouts during the next payout cycle.

Sweet, Thankyou

I've been wondering the same. I have a limited amount of SP but when I read a post about smartsteem yesterday and used their calculator I noticed I actually can get some return.

I've been reading over the pro's and con's of bots lately and I can't make my mind about them. On the one hand I understand the upside for small authors to get post promotion trough bots but on the other hand you start to lose the manual curation and the fact that people actually read content.

I think I gone sell some votes when my SP goes > 92% or sell for example 5 100% votes. . I can't curate daily so my voting power will have some good use and on the other hand I have enough SP left to curate manually when I want to.

I let go smartsteem. It is not worth losing the fun of steemit. I set my limit at 50% but they regularly dragged it down way further.
