SteemIt.com was a much nicer place before these fascists trigger happy flaggers came along, most of who want to police how users use their up-votes and their own steem.
these users are a big deal and pose a real threat to the integrity of the platform as being one that promotes value to the freedom of expression of its user base.
is a block feature possible in the future?
one of the biggest problems any society eventually has to face is when the majority begins to tilt in a way that is oppressive for a minority. what if there is a subgroup of users who wants to use this platform in a way that the majority, even a small one in any given time, seems unpleasant? then we are running into that environment again where people are being suppressed, and in this case both in voice and economically because some slight and completely subjective majority decides that their voices need to be suppressed.
the flagging tool worked great to censor out content that was objectively violent or inappropriate for younger audiences, however the issue now is starting to become a big problem for when people with large SP powers can silence voices they simply do not agree with, and now I see whale accounts flagging any voices of disagreement, thus nullifying the benefit of the platform as valuing the voices of its user-base.
I hope Steemit will introduce a block feature where communication can be blocked from certain people who over and over prove to be a source of policing harassment more than a benefit to the platform or its value as a whole.
I am sure there are other solutions, please offer a suggestion in the comments below or make your own post.
