for many people steemit already is something impossible. A lot of people will think that whole thing is a financial piramid. Adding a affiliate program, will give them one another premise to think that this is actually true.
You have to remember, that you main motivation should not be money. You should do good job regardless of fact, whether you get paid for that or not. Good job just deserved to be done.
If you will do it properly, then you will receive a compensation from community for your time.

Most of the users on STEEM I would say are professional content publishers of some type (bloggers, youtubers, authors, photographers, videographers, comedians, etc). Are you saying that they produce content for the love of it...and are not interested in getting paid. The whole point of STEEM is to reward folks for producing original content, and introducing others to the opportunity. Why would you not then have a mechanism to track referrals?
