Finding time for side projects

in #steemit5 years ago

I have so many ideas for side projects, or little projects that I want to play with I get frustrated at times. If you follow me you know that I'm working to get out of the gig-economy #noloafingmoney and work as an independent consultant. I also have a young family and time is precious to me. Its the lack of time that is the entire reason I want to build a long term, sustainable online business where I can de-couple time and money.

Fun Stuff

However, every few days I think of something that I would love to know, and after spending a bit of time scouring github or the internet in general and I can't find it I make a mental note to do it myself.

Analyzing the STEEM blockchain

The thing that I am interested in right now, the thing that has piqued my interest enough to write this post, is being able to tease out historical information from the STEEM blockchain and present it in readable graphs, etc.

Every once in a while, well a few times a day lately, I think about something that I would like to know about the state of steem and try to figure it out.

Things like:

  • What is the most payout on an article in the last year?
  • What topic has the highest average payout, is the topic changing over time?
  • How many active users are there, and what are they doing?
  • Are we getting more or fewer active users?
  • Is there a way to create hybrid topics, search articles with AND and OR and NOT, etc

But who has time for that?

Well, I don't know any programming language well enough to jump in with two feet; and for at least the next 6 months there is no way I am going to be getting more time.

I need to get my #noloafingmoney project making money and keep enough clients happy to pay the bills at the same time.

It has all been done before

Since I'm still new (again) to the STEEM blockchain, maybe someone has already created a site that will do this, or a set of scripts that would allow someone to download the blockchain and play with it locally.

If you, or someone you know, is that person. Let me know in the comments down below. Be sure to tag your friends and/or reblog if you think someone in your audience may be able to answer these questions.

I have a lot more of them, but I figure if I can get answers to a few of the above, with live code, then we can manipulate everything to answer more.

Cheers,
NL
