Something that struck me from the first day was the lack of spicy language, flame wars and controversy. In real life, I swear like a sailor. Most people do. Sometimes I write like that, but am keeping it clean because of the reigning culture.
Yesterday I stumbled upon my first antagonistic posts and comments, predominantly whales who are pissed off at at voting bot abuse and reward pool rape. If I had popcorn, I would've grabbed it. Utterly entertaining and educational for a fresh minnow.
Personally, I don't use upvote bots mainly because I normally don't have SBD to bid and pay. I also don't want 90% of comments on my posts to consist of "Congratulations, you got a 38% upvote from Bot X". I do have some class and restraint. Not that I'm against using bots and other tools to help you stand up, because on your own as a noob, you will get nowhere without the odd resteem.
The tools I use are the post promotion sections on a few Discord channels and a single resteem per post. I have also set up Steemauto to upvote about 5 people whenever I have 100% VP. This is free. My posts have to fail or succeed on its own merit. I myself am from a "developing country", along with large part of the community. This why you see this desperation to make actual money as quickly as possible. Life on $200 per month is no joke. I don't even have that, but I do have my pride and dignity.
To get back to the flags and response wars, it gets quite heated with some choice insults thrown around and that makes me happy because you can't just have rainbows and unicorns all the time. And when people are at their worst, they tend to become funny and creative with their insults. Yet, I hope it doesn't spread. I used to spend my life on forums, Reddit and Facebook and I would never want Steemit to degrade to that level, but if I'm going to speak more naturally now, within reason. Expect the odd fuck and shit from me. Where I come from, the word "cunt" is basically a term of endearment, but it seems like it's quite the bad word in the US. So I'll refrain from using cunt, even thought I've met some awesome cunts on here.
Lols don’t get involved in the flag wars.
Funny. And I saw this post coming. Maybe not certain from whence it would come, but I did predict it.
I chanced upon that same thing the other night myself. Whale wars, lol. Looked like some dirty wars going on there. Stuff I definitely don't care to engage with. I think refraining from the bot usage will probably help you successfully accomplish that aversion.
And yes, I am glad this is no 4chan. I don't want it to be. Not that it's always a bad place. I just like the niceyness here. And the freedom to be openly female without having to provide proof of my frontal endowment.
I'll take that as a compliment, and you seem like a pretty awesome cunt yourself. ;)
Just don't get yourself all fucked up flagging the shit out of all those cunty whales over there. Those cunts can fuck themselves just fine without any help from you.
Is that better? I really employed some language there.
Hahaha. Yeah, I'm giving entities with 71 rep and $1.2m in SP a wide fucking berth. For now I feel safe in the reeds...
Aaaand it just occurred to me for the first time that you are a, um, what's the politically correct term in 2018? Before I get into shit... I just realised that you identify as female. That could mean anything. Doesn't matter to me, but god am I scared of pissing off a potential Antifa millennial!
Sucks when the world gets weird just as you start to get old :p
Haha, that tiptoe dance was cute. "Just a toe in the water. Uh oh, what did I say? Back up, back up, regroup. Approach the wild fembeast a more skillful way."
First of all, I'll say that I respect all ways of looking at life. No matter how you "identify". You have the right to that, and the right to basic respect of your being, simply for existing. But have things gone of the rails regarding this subject? Yes. I think so.
Personally, I tend to identify as a human being, or hooman bean, if you prefer. And in no way by that do I mean any disregard to those who feel a need for a particular identity. I do tend to think identities get in the way more often than they help. But I'm sure that statement could be torn apart in some constructive but critical way by someone a little more enlightened on, or daily affected by, the subject than I. I think maybe an opposing argument could come from the angle that people who've been marginalized by society find strength and a voice in having an identity in order to promote the normalization of ways of being that have been prior shunned and excluded from society.
But on your point of offense. I do agree. Both of these videos sum up how I feel about it. One more eloquently, and the other a little more blunt. Both ring true to me, though.
The point is to think. Think before you judge. Think before you act. I tend to think the world has always been weird, and forever will be so, but we as humans have a habit of wanting to sanitize it. Always in the name of something. Whatever the religion may be, traditional or secular.
I read this the other day and it seems relevant to add here as well: https://steemit.com/society/@drrobertmuller/anger-violence-diminishing-trust-and-positive-psychology-the-inherent-contradictions-within-neoliberalism
Woke up around 4am Central African Time this morning because of my dog standing on top of me. Once awoken, I don't fall asleep again easily or at all, so I cuddled the little asshole (the whole dog, didn't just focus on his butt) and realised he probably needed to drop his guts and piss on things.
So, with coffee in hand, soon I was sitting outside in the dark, the only sound being the muezzins across the city calling the faithful to salat. And the sound of a particularly dank nugget from my dog's ass that actually made a sound as it plopped into the soft soil. I couldn't find it and had to go fetch a flashlight in spite of it being about a foot long.
Being fully awake, I of course went onto Steemit to see which American whale had given me a $250 trail of upvotes while I was sleeping. There must've been a problem on the blockchain because there were none. I hope they fix this soon.
The vids and article are spot-on as far as my views are concerned. I had to suppress my Sarah Silverman boner (death by snu-snu please), but managed okay in focusing on the message. And then John Lydon as a final touch, yeah.
The article by (@)drrobertmuller is a prime example of something great which was unable to rise above the static of lame, over-voted strategic posts.
You really have a knack for finding good content and curating quality over monetized trending. I have followed many of the people that you have resteemed.
I also feel strongly that you should start to consider spreading your wings and write your own content. Your writing and reasoning is superior to the bulk of the things I have to sift through every day.
That's too funny. I can't get that imagery out of my head now. Oh doggy butts. Now I know what I'll be dreaming about. Oy vey. You woke up to it, but I'm going to bed with that in my head.
I appreciate the compliment. I really haven't put much effort into the what or the why of what I'm doing on here yet. Honestly, I don't think I'm that good of a writer. I know I'm not a bad writer, and probably not in how I convey my ideas, but grammatically, I know I could use some work. I could use a copy-editor, tbh. Or just a remedial class in writing/english grammar. Maybe that's where you could help me if you wanted to. You definitely are superior to me in that regard. Now don't let that go to your head...or do, it's whatever. I don't really care to be the best. I kinda just want to write stuff that's meaningful rather than the 50th version of the same thing in a new flavor.
Let me know if you have any ideas you feel like sharing, or if you just wanna talk about whatever. I'm going to bed, but I'll get up and look over your blog to see if you've posted anything new. I'm just now making my rounds back over your way.
But it's those 51st versions of hardly reheated posts that make all the money! But seriously, I'll help you with whatever my abilities will allow for. I haven't found a direct message function in my browsers or mobile Steemit app, but my hobby web server where I do my drafts in WordPress has my anon email under "contact". If you know WordPress, I can give you author's access and you can use it to practice. It auto-saves and you can go back to earlier versions while testing graphics and photos to see b how it fits with your post.
It would be easy for me to go over grammar and small details there before you you unleash it on Steemit.
This feels like the beginning of the internet. Meet someone you know nothing about and find that you get along. All I know is that when I'm sleeping, you are awake doing god knows what. And vice versa.
It'll probably take a day or two before I start doing posts again. Focusing on comments and upvote myself. Must get more SP!
Cool, that WordPress idea sounds really useful. I've never been on there. I'll have to see about that. And yeah, I've just figured everyone on here talks over on Discord. I have it, but I haven't used it for any Steemit talk.
It kinda does feel like the start of the internet, doesn't it? I'm definitely doing lord only knows while you're sleeping. Although, I'd say my sleep time has been a bit peculiar of late, specifically last night, after that beautiful imagery you set me up with. That truly did translate to my dreams...don't ask...just don't ask lol. My head's a dark and scary place to wander around too long sometimes. All the time, rather. I think that's why we'll make good fwiends, you and I.
I'm not really playing the money game on here yet. (Not that I really have any means to.) I'm feeling a bit cynical about all that. Maybe I'll change my tune on that if I can figure out a decent angle that doesn't feel too much like I'm pimping my soul to Steemit.
And it looks like Dmania may just become our new 4chan..
