RE: Content Crusaders: The Fight to Save Steemit Will Fail

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Just a few of my thoughts on this kind of stream of consciousness style after being on here for almost 2 weeks.

I don't think Steemit should be censored... I think low quality will get lack of votes and handle it's self.

I don't think a type of content should be judged and down voted just based on the type but rather all content should be judges on it's own merits, be it sports, art, NSFW, Conspiracy, Cooking, even Porn (as you notice I see that separate from NSFW in general.)
Another thing I'd like to mention regarding is The Arts...
The time it takes you to look at something does not = the level of quality. A long text based post can have less value than a short one that has quality information. A creative short story can have more value than a long book.

A picture is worth 1000 words as they say, but that picture may have taken 40 hours to make as opposed to that long post taking 2-3 hours to write. I say this after just having done 14 day and a 10 hour photoshoot on Sunday. Now spending 4+ hours selecting the best images out over 1000 images I shot and I'm still not done. And then I'll spend 1-2 hours retouching on each image I select most likely. (Most of my posts are Images and Art.)

A sculpture may take weeks to finishes, a time lapse video could take months or years. A song and performance may have taken years to get to that level of ability and practice.

What I'm trying to say here is that when judging content and upvoting people need to take into account what went into what they are looking at, not just what they are looking at. This approach will encourage people to advance in their craft and rewards them for it.

I come from internet marketing background and quality content will always be king. But you will always have the quick buck marketers that try to spam or hire people to crank out articles of low value and I don't want to see that happen but I thing it will take care of it's self.

One final note worth mentioning is that there is strong bias in favor of almost anything an attractive woman posts regardless of the quality of content. This is why selfies, which really have little value get thousands of likes on IG and FB. I hope that does not come here. Self-Portraits, photoshoots, demonstrations of exercises etc... and creativity of any kind is a whole other story and I believe creativity and effort should be rewarded regardless of who posts it.

Good post though - Upvoted! Check out my work if you get a chance...
