I decided to write this after I read a post of someone teaching newbies how to Upvote to earn curation rewards, He practically taught them how to Upvote only big account so they'll have more chances of earning bigger rewards.
In my humble opinion, I think upvoting should not be entirely tied to curation rewards. If you read a post and you liked it or learnt anything from it, it is only fair you show acknowledgement by upvoting it.
Most upvotes on this platform are done on the basis of curation rewards. Everyone wants to share the curation rewards from big accounts or someone who has massive whales support. Even when someone wants to upvote a post that might not give him hugs rewards, he does that with a very low percentage.
Sadly, that is how the world is. People prefer personal gains to ethics or fairness. The world has ever been a fair place. Even Steem is not perfect. But I believe cryptocurrency and the Blockchain technology have a mission to correct some of this unfair practices. We can make things better. It starts with me and you. You can change your upvoting techniques from today. If you read a post that adds value to you, made you smile or got you informed, please Upvote it with some meaningful VP percentage.
Minnows too should upvote
I also noticed that most minnows don't upvote posts. They rush to place a comment so they could be seen, without upvoting the post.
Your upvotes count. Even if it doesn't worth up to a dollar, it counts. It shows you appreciate the post just as one would click the facebook *Like*. Next time when you come across a post you like, make sure to Upvote it.
This does not end in upvoting posts alone, Vote A Witness. It really matters.

@ogoowinner, I keep hearing people say it's for the maximum curation. Oh, that may be true, but I always forget once I like the posts. Life's too short to wait on a lot of things :)
I also don't wait for the 30 minutes sometimes, cus I have noticed that I do forget to go back and upvote the post.

I am totally with you on this, most folks gravitate towards certain accounts while ignoring their fellow planktons or newbies. Personally I upvote manually, so I upvote what I like, I might not earn much but I feel good on the inside and thats what matters. Thank you.

I think why a lot of us minnows don't vote is because we think it doesn't count. It's frustrating when you upvote a post and the money doesn't increase so sometimes I don't bother.
But your ppost has given me a new perspective. I never knew people saw upvoting as appreciation of a post. I'll start upvoting whenever I can.

Great post. I totally agree with you. I am on Steemit for almost two weeks now and I found out that I prefer good quality posts and making friends, meeting new and interesting people over making money. Of course it is lovely to get something from supporting other but it's not my main purpose at the moment.
Btw I just wanted to say that I am slowly but surely falling in love with your posts. I have to admit that you were one of the very first people I started to follow mainly because you are Nigerian as my husband and I was very curious why your posts are having such high rewards but honestly, your posts make really sense and they are well written and you really deserve it 😉

You are absolutely right. I always compare upvotes to "like" on Facebook and "double tap" on IG. Sometimes we forget that steemit is first a social media before it is a platform that rewards creativity. People are mostly about rewards. Whereas getting rewards ain't bad, it is also good to show someone that you really love the post they put up by just upvoting. It costs nothing. Stop looking at reputation before you upvote. You are right, I see this a lot on my blog. Most people comment within seconds without up voting. And even their comments end up being Spam because they didn't read the post. Obviously they do not know the right way to build relationships. I hope people learn from this..

You have actually said a lot in a short post. My own view on why this happen is because most people are for the money and they orientation that brought them to the platform does not teaches them most basics and important rudiment

I have noticed getting more curations voting for my fellow newbies. I vote for whales too especially when i like what they write.
There is some unfairness, I have seen posts that deserve alot but just less curations were expected so they were never voted.
The world and all its system has always been unfair. But we can make the Steem plartform different.

You're right my dear.. people should stop looking at rep before reading and upvote posts. Once you find a post interesting and you gain out of it, just upvote it with a meaningful percentage. Thanks for this useful advice and I hope people will learn from it. I will resteem it for more views

Majority of us here really needs some orientation on the reason we should do some things here and I believe this post is one of it, people changes their attitude in situations like the camellion when money is involve, normally, on facebook, a sane man will never like a post unless the post is valuable or informative, but they does that here not for the value it adds to them but for the money, and this is not how it ought to be.

I think most people have the wrong impression on steemit vast majority of steemians are just here simply because of the monetary reward without know that I goes more than that.

Thank God you talked about this stuff, I think there's some sort of decentralisation on this platform, some ppl just see ppl they know and just upvote whether good or bad post. People don't believe in minnow or whatever they have to offer.

Some people like me set steem auto.. I did it cos I have a lot of people I am following and can't keep up. Most times some of them may post and the electricity issues here do make me miss some post. Not easy at all... thanks for sharing sis.

I was once discouraged to vote people's post in my early days of steemit because it doesn't add 0.01 then. I'll drop comments to show that I appreciate the person instead. But now things I've changed, at least my upvote add 2 to 3 cents now and I do it immediately I see the post. Citation reward still come, it doesn't matter if it's 30minutes or earlier.
