An article published on Steemit gets an extraordinarily good position in Google's search results. Steemit is very popular with Google and rightly so, because it is done very well in terms of SEO (search engine optimization). Steemit is also very well linked. We all benefit from this. I have often noticed that and therefore this article is overdue.
German tutorial #2", because there is one little mistake. That's not a Rant! I follow him, support his work and recommend that you also should follow him, read his contents and of course give him upvotes.Inspired by the multi-part series "German tutorial" by @theaustrianguy, which I read and illustrate, I will add my expertise to the video "
If you use the available markdowns incorrectly, you fasten the handbrake without knowing it. Your articles will then not get the optimal range. And it's pretty easy to avoid this mistake.
Below you'll learn how to use the markdowns at Steemit so that Google loves your articles and you don't drive with the handbrake on.
By the way: The reason why Steemit scores so well in the search results, has several reasons which are not relevant for this article at the moment and easily fill an own and very extensive article. However, in the comments below I like to go on it and if it's necessary also I will do an article on it. The topic Google (SEO) has been on my mind for 9 years now and the content of this article belongs to the basics of my work. Here we go...
How do I use headlines correctly?
There are basically six different headlines that you can use, or one headline and five subheadings. You should never use one of the six headlines. And that is the essence of this article. In the following I break down this core statement into the individual building blocks.
These six headlines are available:
H1 tag equals a hash (#)- heading or title- H2 tag equals two hash (##) - subheading
- H3 tag equals three hash (###) - subheading
- H4 tag equals four hash (####) - subheading
- H5 tag equals five hash (#####) - subheading
- H6 tag equals six hash (######) - subheading
The crossed out H1 tag (Markdown: a hash #) in the list will be no longer used in the article. Why, you'll find out later.
The title structure of the Steemit article
The headline structure of the Steemit article can be compared to a Word document. So there is a heading, the title of the article - this is the H1 tag (Markdown: a hash #). This heading should only appear once on each URL and should be the first heading. The other headings are only subordinate to subtitles and logically subordinate to the other headings. For example, a heading with H2 tag (Markdown: two hash ##) can be followed by two paragraphs with H3 tag (Markdown: three hash ###), but not with H4 tag (Markdown: four hash ####). These could only mark paragraphs after an H3 tag (Markdown: three hash ###).
And now follows the important information of my message...
As you already know as an experienced Steemit user, you have to place the title of your article when creating a new article in the title field above. When sending the article, this heading is automatically marked with an H1 tag (Markdown: a hash #). So you already have (presumably without knowing it) the H1 tag (markdown: a hash #) in use.
And this tag should only appear once per URL, so it's not gonna be used again in the article.
The headline structure graphically illustrates

Now you have learned that you have not longer to use the H1 tag (Markdown: a hash #).
The graphic shows a typical use of the H tags. The H tags are used for the hierarchical structure of your article. The more extensive your article is, the more outlines are necessary. Usually I don't use all of them, but only H2 tags (Markdown: two hash ##) and H3 tags (Markdown: three hash ###) and I already have quite extensive articles. The tags H4, H5 and H6 would only be used for more extensive articles such as multilateral, scientific papers.
That's why you don't use the H1 tag
The H1 tag is therefore the heading that is only used for once. If you want to position a document or URL well in Google's search results, make sure you use SEO compliant headings. Optical aspects should then play a minor role. Google is simply "confused" by two headings. Which one counts now? The heading is the heading and is only used once. By the way, Google also loves a good structure by means of subtitles.
For the professionals: In general, you can use HTML instead of markdowns to set the subtitles. I recommend to use markdowns, because the H tags inflate the source code unnecessarily. Two P tags are added, which are simply not necessary. Just have a look at the source code.
