The main reason your posts aren't getting the amount of votes you were hoping to get is not because your posts are boring or inappropriate, it is because unlike most social media networks, steemit users have a limited amount of voting power. Voting power determines the strength of the vote which slowly decreases when voting, making the auther reward and the curation reward (a reward the voter gets) worth less and less.
Power decreases with each vote. Voting frequently in a small amount of time increases the rate at which voting power decays and it recovers slowly after a period of not voting. How much the power decreases and how long it takes to build up again depends on the number of votes during a given period of time. You can view the percent of your voting power at any time at

What can I do to change this?
Well, as you can see, I'm dealing with this problem myself. There are a few things you can do to increase the amount of your votes:
- Be consistent. Don't give up because of the small amount of votes on your post.
- Comment on other posts and gain followers.
- CLICKBAIT, a large amount of steemers will upvote a post just because of its title, for example: "Bitcoin Is At An All-Time High, But Is It About to self destruct?". I'm not saying the title is all that's important, I'm just saying it's worth spending time on.
- Use popular tags. You can see which tags are the most popular by clicking on the right side of the screen ate the bottom of the tags list on "show more topics...". This feature will show you all the tags available from A to Z with their stats.
- Be patient. The best way to be successful is to be patient, and eventually things will start working out the way you want.
In the meantime, you can start looking for posts that have a potential to grow and upvote them to get some nice curation rewards.
I hope you enjoyed this blog, feel free to ask as many questions as you wish. good luck with steemit!🙂
I agree....Gaining followers is very important too.
Thank you for this informative post. I invite you to follow me. I am new to Steemit, yet I feel I have already written some informative blogs, and have not received much up votes. Yes, it's true, I do not have many followers as of yet, but I think my interesting posts will attract followers. For instance, my first post was on Cacao as Currency (and what is Cacao?). I think it is a good blog, but I feel as though I chose the wrong tag and it will not allow me to edit the first tag. I would love to re-steem this blog and tag it in a more appropriate category. Any input on improving my personal success on Steemit would be much appreciated. In Joy and Pura Vida!
I recommend you look at succesful posts with similar subjects to yours and use the same tags🙂. I hope this helps, have a great day☺️
Your post is straight, simple and understandable, thanks for sharing, pls i have a question, as a new steemer; how long does it before such person to poccess voting power? Thanks @orinklev
Voting power is determined by the amount of steemers power the user has. It can take up to a couple hours for the voting power to fill up, depending on the amount used. I hope my answer helps🙂
Thanks for this, appreciate your insights here. I'm new and have had a couple of posts that did ok but it's a process and from what I see a learning curve. Upvoted, following you and being patient and having fun learning Steemit! Hope you're having a great day :)
👍 have a great day🙂
I should work more on my post titles, I think it is my weakness. Thanks for the advice.
Great post
