Tools to enhance your Steemit experience

Seeing as a lot of the apps available on the Steem App Center are either in development or abandoned, I've decided it might be a good idea to curate it a bit. (This is mainly an experiment, to see if people enjoy this and find value in it. In any case I'll probably be back to doing sciency posts soon enough XP)

This idea was inspired by @mark-waser, who posted the idea of @papa-pepper doing a tool curation series in the future, on @papa-pepper s 500 SBD gig tool to make an easy to use Steemit search engine that would allow one to filter results based on user AND/OR tags. Said 500 SBD gig was won by @kasperfred for his Steemit Tag Search tool

So, without further ado, let's get to it !

The Mad Scientist's list of useful Steemit tools

I've decided to separate these tools into a few categories:

  • Data manipulation and visualisation. Tools dedicated to gathering info on the blockchain, and presenting it to the user.
  • Writing Tools dedicated to making your life as an author easier on Steemit.
  • Curation/Discovery Tools dedicated to discovering posts,
  • Alternative access Other ways to interact with the Steem blockchain. Alternatives/add-ons to the original steemit.

Let's start in order:

Data

  • Steemchart by @elyaque
    Steemchart_EUR.jpg
Nice view of the current price of Steem, SBD and Bitcoins in the IRL currency of your choice.

  • SteemStory by @roelandp

    SteemStory_com_-_A_minimalistic_site_dedicated_to_the_activities_of_Steemians_across_this_wonderful_blockchain_🔊.jpg
SteemStory is just fun to watch from time to time. It tells a little story about your progress on the platform.

  • Dead Followers by @mynameisbrian

    Steemit_-_Dead_Followers_🔊.jpg
Allows you to see which of your followers are still active, based either on their last post or last vote.

Writing

Steemwriter_1_4_🔊.jpg
Steemwriter allows drafting multiple posts, though it lacks some features for now, once those get implemented (upload image by drag-n-drop being the only one keeping me from making my posts directly from Steemwriter) it'll be awesome. Oh, and look, it's my current post ideas. Spoilers

SteemIMG_com_-_Dedicated_Steem_Image_Hosting_🔊.jpg
Image hosting for Steemit. could be useful for high-quality images that the Steemit would otherwise downgrade when uploading directly to Steemit.

Curation/Discovery

  • AutoSteem by @unipsycho

    AutoSteem_1_4_🔊.jpg
AutoSteem is a voting automation tool. With the wide variety of options (see picture), and the only cost being auto upvoting @unipsycho posts automatically, it seems like it would be very useful for curators.

  • SteemShare by @originate

    Steemshare_-_Organization_Steem_Lists_🔊.jpg
SteemShare is based around creating lists of Steem posts. I personally believe it could be built upon to create a system where each user can have a "wall" with a few select posts they recommend to their followers. But even as it is now, it has great potential for curators!

  • Steemit Tag Search by @kasperfred

Other ways to access Steemit content

eSteem.jpg
Currently the Steemit mobile App. It works great (a crash every now and again, but the features, like notifications for posts, votes, mentions, reblogs and follows, make it totally worth it !). I use it everyday ! (and some nights too !)

I've also got some ideas for tools that could be interesting to have in the future. Be it to make your Steemit experience better or just to have fun with some of the data. Here's one (if some Dev feels up for it, have fun !):

  • Tool that extracts the "location" data given by all user's, compares it to countries, states, towns/cities of the world, then places a Pin locating the user on an open-source map or Google map. We'd then have a big map showing the geographic distribution of
    Steemit users.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to try and solve this Cryptic Science Crossword puzzle by @rycharde

Thanks for the mention @pbock - I like your suggestion, and certainly would like re-vamp steemshare when time is permitting.

No problemo ☺

I found Steemshare to be a very good tool. I'll probably try to make a list or two in the future.

Niow if they could just include a link to the Steemshare list for beginners in the steemit FAQ... 😉

Sweet thanks, ill give these a try

bit of a speed-reader, are you ? :)

I recommend Testing out the Steemit Tag Search tool, seems like it has a great future !

Also, if you're not using eSteem or another mobile app, you're not addicted enough to Steemit yet !

Very usefull, thx a lot will follow you to get more info :)

Nice to know it was useful.

These kind of tool recommendation posts tend to pop up every now and again, but given how temporary the posts seem, lots of new people miss them completely.

If you need any help starting out on the platform, I'd recommend papa-peppers advice for beginning Steemians
