Day 2 in the Steemit House
It's Day two in the Steemit House and already Penny is looking for a window to climb out of. She gave up trying to pry open the bathroom window and instead settled herself in a corner with a bottle of whiskey, rocking back and forth.
Yeah, I don't really watch Big Brother, but my brain decided this would be funny spin...
Anyway, so... This really is my second day on Steemit, and I just thought I'd document how it's going so far. And I already feel like I'm either doing something terribly wrong or I just need to just grow some patience!
Just keep drinking that whiskey and chill Penny!
I decided to post about this because, when I signed up yesterday, the first thing I did was browse to look for 'self-help tips' and 'this means this' articles on here. And although I have found some interesting articles to read, it doesn't really explain an awful lot. I feel like I'm missing something vital. Like I'm missing wheels on a car and all I'm doing is scrapping the tarmak with a paddle and wondering why I'm not moving. So I figured I'd document for my own personal development here on Steemit (even if it's to look back in a few weeks or months and have a good old giggle at myself) or in the hope new Steemers / Steemits / Steemians might find this helpful. (You're not alone!)
First day, I posed an introduction and was pleasently surprised to see a few comments, upvotes and such.
Not much in terms of notifications though, which I was confused about, I had these comments, upvotes and such but I only found them by going into my 'blog', 'comments', 'replies' etc, bit. I'm now worried I'm going to miss something!
After a little bit of a panic, I checked out the 'wallet' part on my account says I have $0.63.
Wooopieee! It starts already!
Wait, hang on... my introduction post has $3.07?
I still have no idea what this means!
It probably doesn't help that I'm new to these crypocurrencies (we all got to start somewhere I guess, right?)
I then decided to just post a second post, the first chapter of my published book that I have for sale on Amazon; 'It's My Mistake', and that had even less interaction!
I posted it under the main tag of 'fiction' with a few other tags (you're allowed up to 5 apparently, the first tag is the main tag).
So I decided to post the Prologue of my new and up-coming book (I hold that one in much higher regard to my published one) and put it under a different main tag of 'writing' (with a few other less tags of course) and low and behold, over night it managed to get $101.36.
But before I decided to pop open the champagne, I went back onto my account and my wallet - you're probably thinking I'm just money-hungry, I'm really not, just trying to figure out how it works! - and my wallet is still at $0.63.
Right, so, what does that mean?
I still can't answer that one just yet. I really don't know!
So, I did a bit more of a search through posts and things, and came up with a few handy tips I'm going to start practicing in the next few days:
- Follow people. I read somewhere that it's good to follow people, build up a bit of a network with some interesting people. And I don't mean interesting people like, they're popular so they're good to follow, I mean - if I find them interesting because we share things in common, I'll follow them.
- Comment on posts. Actually engage with people. It's a social networking site at the end of the day, and what drives the website is people. No point being on here, post and hope for the best!
- Upvote. This one I'm still getting my head around. I'm still not 100% sure what it means to upvote. I'm guessing it's a bit like 'liking' a post and because you've liked it, it becomes more popular, and they get a small 'payout' on Steemit currency. But this one I'm going to just be wary about, I don't want to just upvote the shit out of things in the hope it just helps people out and we grow together as a community, and I don't want to NOT upvote and it goes against me too!
- Post. Post. Post. And I don't mean, post random crap that has no meaning, or make stuff up, or even just copy and paste something I found interesting. Actually take a little time and effort into posting something interesting, genuine and maybe helpful?
I'm going to add a quick 5. on here too, as I read a post earlier today saying to make use of Steemit.chat, so I checked that out and all I saw were a few people having a discussion about bitcoins and other crypocurrencies and I panicked and closed it rather quickly!
But, I'm going to go back every now and then and check it, just have a bit of a play around with the different 'channels' until I get my head around it.
So, that's the plan. Fingers Crossed.
If you have any tips too, feel free to share! Even if it's not for me and for others so they don't feel so lost (like me, sob).
Wellcome to family :)
I'm on day 3 and having a similar experience to you. I'm a cryptocurrency noob. I'm slowly piecing it together now, I guess. I guess one obvious problem with decentralised everything is that there is no authority to write the authoritative guide. D'oh!
I'm glad I'm not alone! I was mobile-free for a few months a while back, it was my own dad that forced the technology on me. I'd be quite happy not to have one, but apparently it's useful? I don't know! Haha! Cryptocurrency on the other hand, it's like your talking a new language.
Do you mean a guide on how to use Steemit? I guess it is still in beta mode, these things might need to be 'ironed out' so to say.
Haha! I understand, I felt the same way at first... You get rewarded after 7 days of posting only... the money you already have is donated by steemit to help you get started... So don't worry you'll see the 100$ next week added to your 63 cents... Hope I helped , you can ask me questions if I know i'll answer them! @jamisa
Hey! Thank you so much @jamisa! That's really good to know! :D

Thank you! :D
Ooo, travel blogs! I like already! I'll certainly check out your posts. I love travelling!
hi @penny-rose , i totally understand you , this is my second day on steemit and is so confusing but i think patience is the answer for all our problems , just do our best and wait for the rewards to come . Following you , let's see where this leads us ...
Hey @silviu93 and welcome this this crazy place we call Steemit. Haha.
I'm sure, as we navigate our way through, we will eventually understand it bit by bit. There doesn't seem to be a 'quick fix' guide on the website. So we just have to go by trial-and-error for now.
But I guess, it is still in beta mode, so we have to be patient.
I just hope others, those that have been on here longer, are just as patient!
Every new beginning is a bit confusing, but I see you are off to a good start. I'm glad if my little beginner's tutorial helped. :)
Just like someone said, payout is 7 days after posting and you get between 75 and 100%, while the rest goes to people who voted. That's right, you can earn rewards simply by voting, but you'll need more steem power (the more steem power you have, the stronger your influence) and a good voting strategy to really benefit from that.
Anyway, have a great time Steeming! :)
That's ace! Thank you! So, it actually does good to read and upvote others posts too!
I'm slowly getting the hang of this Steemit lark! :P
I'm glad, I'm not the only one getting confused. Thanks for sharing and helping me feel better about my lousy performance so Far! Lol!
Haha! You're welcome.
Keep at it.
Don't forget to upvote, comment and just generally interact with people. Build up an audience and soon (hopefully, that's my plan anyway) things will get better. :)
Welcome to the Steemfamily !!! Followed. Follow me back 😘
