RE: What Do You Look For When Buying A New PC Motherboard?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Spend as much money as you possibly can on any board you buy.

No way, you can get a better GPU or CPU unless you have an unlimited budget. Just get a reliable board with solid power phase design and good overclocking options that you're comfortable with. And don't worry about the damn colors ya kids :P

  1. SOFTWARE:

Everything should be done in the BIOS so software considerations should be limited to that. Consult an overclocking-oriented review of the motherboard you're looking at and pay attention to what they have to say about the BIOS options.

  1. AESTHETICS:

Get a quiet case without a window and never have to worry about aesthetics again. Especially spending extra money on different colored components, ew. That money could go to a high refresh rate monitor or a better component that gives you 5-10 more FPS in your favorite game. Would you rather have your PC components that you and everyone else might glance at once be color coordinated or would you rather have a better PC?

I'm a cheap, bang for the buck fuck. Even though I can't overclock my Xeon chip, if I did have an overclockable Haswell-E or Broadwell-E I'd still probably have gone with the ASRock X99 Extreme4. These 4-core LGA 1151 chips are overpriced Celerons these days.

Ha ha! I like your aesthetics! I used a CoolerMaster Test Bench with no sides and no windows ;) so I'm with ya there!

My current case with $1000 worth of computer components in it is a beat up scratched up Antec SLK2650-BQE. Old cases are awesome because they didn't put so many unnecessary fan holes in them. Damn holes! Get off my lawn.

Great cases. Quiet, big, heavy (solid feeling), not too expensive. I got my test bench for $39 and I love it!! I'd never have a case again!! Dust bunnies! Get off my lawn! Ha ha!

The SLK3700-BQE is way better at being quiet. The steel is thick as hell, and of course no fan holes anywhere besides the front and back. And I have one too, but there's different guts inside it.

A Russian tank in WW3 could run over that case and it would survive! Nuke it too and it'd STILL survive! Ha ha!

Kinda like this!
