5 Tips For Friends Joining Steemit

First of all, welcome and thanks for joining this awesome community! If you haven't signed up for Steemit or still have questions about the platform please check out the FAQ. Here are a few tips I've picked up to help you get started.

1. Introduce Yourself!

Steemit veterans provide a level of support for new users rarely found on other social media platforms. Make sure to make a post introducing yourself and tag it under introduceyourself. Check out the Minnow Support Project and get involved with active users interested in promoting good content!

Once you've taken a look around you'll want to start posting. Check out the markdown for formatting tips or use the editor on the submission form.

2. Quality is King and Queen; Convenience is Not

At first I assumed I should upvote all of my own posts and comments in addition to upvoting other content. Why not pay yourself: it's free, right? Wrong!

It may pay to upvote your own comments once you get enough Steem Power to adjust your voting power but be aware that your voting power decreases with every click! For more information on voting power click here.

A fair system that distributes financial rewards for curating content must include some kind of restriction to discourage self-curation so as a new user you'll have better results upvoting good, popular content at just the right time Be patient and put in the work to build your following and the community will be happy to support you. And remember, you never know when...

3. The Whales Are Watching

The wealthiest users on the platform are referred to as 'whales.' You can find more information and statistics on them at steemwhales and while they may have enough sway on the platform to rack up a respectable amounts of money through self-votes this method rarely offers the same level of return achieved by those who focus on creating and curating useful, quality content from a variety of users.

4. Use @Randowhale To Boost Visibility

Sometimes posts will receive comments from automated bots created to promote various efforts on the Steemit platform.

Other curation bots exist but as @financialcritic demonstrates in his article, the Randowhale bot typically offers an actual return on your 2 Steem Dollar (SBD) investment in addition to the increased attention a post receives by having a few dollars in upvotes.

5. Be Patient and Have Fun!

Anyone can join Steemit, follow a few thousand users, get a few hundred followers, and cultivate a small following that will earn a few cents per post (or dollars, with curation bots), but taking the time to engage with other users will provide a far more rewarding experience than sweating any imaginary milestones you feel you need to conquer to prove your content-making prowess. Find out what users need and present it in the most accessible way you can and your work will go a lot further than it will with any shortcuts you're likely come across.

Please feel free to comment with any questions, comments, love, or suggestions below!
