For those who are unaware of what faucets are, they are websites that give free cryptocurrencies, like bitcoin and litecoin, in return of answering simple questions in the form of Captchas.
When I first heard the term and the concept I was very excited but this excitement went to drain when I experienced the downside of it. I almost got scammed by one of these sites. If you do the maths, it will take almost a year before you can gain a bitcoin out of it. Most of them gives in 20 to 200 satoshis for one captcha reply. You will require 100,000,000 Satoshi to make 1 bitcoin and if the game allows you to play in intervals of 5 minutes to 20 minutes, it will take ages before you acquire 1 bitcoin.
For those still interested in making some money out of Faucet, you should be wary of all the sites available. There are so many claiming to give you cryptocurrencies that if you register will all of them then you will be making some serious cash. Unfortunately my friends, this is a more difficult task as there are many scams out there. When treading along those paths, better be careful than sorry.
Mostly you will find 2 ways of scamming. The first one is a website full of adverts and then you get to play the captcha game every 5 minutes or 1 hour. They will require that you gain some 20 000 satoshis before you can cash out. Eventually when you reach the stated amount and try to transfer to your wallet, they will inform you that you will need to play for another 7 days and this will never end. Do not waste your time there.
The second way is the site allows you to choose how much bitcoin you want to mine and then shows you some Linux screen with connection and mining commands. The website will show you a progress bar of the amount of bitcoin it has mined, increasing your adrenaline and excitement till it reaches 100%. Once it is there, a button appears having the 'claim' word or similar written on it. Once you click on it, it will instruct you to pay the mining fee so that the transaction can be verified on the blockchain and provides you will a wallet address to send that mining fee. If you are in a hurry to transfer the money to the miner's address, wait a bit and think. The system has just mined some 1.5 bitcoin and now it is requiring me to pay for the mining fee. Why is that? Why can't the system deduct the mining fee from the amount of BTC it is going to give you? This question only will let you know that this is a scam. Stay away from it.
