My input on steemit and introduction :)

in #steemit7 years ago

Hello everyone,

Introduction

Hi all i'm an IT guy and part of an investor group in Indonesia. The content i'll post mostly will be centered around current economy in Indonesia and about technology in general. If anyone has an interesting startup let me know we might invest :)

I really like this image it really represents steemit.

My Steemit input

I joined steemit today and looking at most things being posted just to make money makes me not like it. I kinda was hoping finding great blog contents that would be remunerated based on being really good. But what ends up happening is content being promoted just because it get's promoted by other people.

Useless comments everywhere

People end up commenting saying something nice in the hopes of making money. Example "Nice post", "Cool", "great post i love it, i'll resteemit" A simple upvote would suffice no need to comment like that.

Random upvotes for profit ?

I kinda find it ridiculous that people upvote some posts that don't make sense.

Example, there are a bunch of posts i've seen where they show statistics about the last X days of steem. (top x posters, steempower used last x days etc...) If people really want to know about those things they can just google and easily find websites that show statistics like Steemwhales You don't need to follow someone and wait every day's post to see those statistics ...
What i saw also is that this type of post gets than 50$ worth of upvotes which makes no sense because than the really good content stays below on the list. There's no real upside to upvote this kind of post, it's basically a post just to make money and show others how greedy they should be to get to those numbers. By seeing that these types of posts get good value, it encourages other people to post similar posts that will end up showing a lot of trash posts for everyone in the long run.

Tags in posts

Another thing that i can see exploited is the fact that the tags used in blog posts can be chosen. So if i'm smart enough i'll always use only tags that are part of the top 20 list of tags and add at most 1 additional tag that matches my content. There's nothing really verifying those things.

Future of steemit

If this keeps going we will start to see posts like "How to make money in steemit here's the guide, upvote this and i'll upvote you" They might probably not write it that obvious, but in some form it's the message they will kinda show with their post.

Steemit still good though

The overall idea of steemit is good, i like the idea of having a reddit kind of website (specially when reddit is not accessible here in indonesia you need to use vpn to access it) where people who invest time get some reward in return. I like sharing my knowledge and like to discuss about ideas i have.

Please don't comment things like: "I don't agree". Express yourself in more than just a few words why i might be wrong or right.
Let me know what you guys/girls think.

Welcome! And thank you for saying something about random upvotes, people who do that are here for the wrong reasons and exploiting the platform.

Cheers
