PUMP, PUMP, PUMP!
Recently, there have been a flurry of new posts promoting Steemit, and pro-Steemit bullish messages conveniently end up on the front page.
I'll address the latter first.
Allow me to quote what a Bitcoin trader Kong Gao said after scanning Steemit's front-page:
"Most of the articles on Steemit are promoting steem, which makes it seem like a variation of a Ponzi [scheme]"
So while you think being blindingly positive is good for Steemit (and for STEEM), it arouses suspicion for both Steemit (this particular client implementation) and STEEM (the blockchain).
Why?
Because variation in content where some tend towards the negative is only natural in a neutral environment.
Now I'll address the first point, which is far more important.
As far as I know, there has been no formal security audit.
So does it make sense to push user adoption of a platform that has not been formally audited?
Upon what basis can reassure your Uncle that the $1,000 he placed in his Steemit account in the form of Steem Power is safe?
That his account is sufficiently secured that it's unlikely he'll be hacked?
You can't
Unless you're knowledgeable to have audited the site yourself.
The main point is that you can't make a probabilistic decision based on a third party security audit - i.e.by considering their track record or the incentives present to the security firm to be thorough.
So while I think the pumpers mean well, I think they are degrading the value of Steemit, and potentially will help produce a lot of SFYL in the near future...
Very interesting observations! Had been thinking on those lines too, especially seeing all the big SP holders (whales) up-voting posts which were exactly doing that. I thought it was good for a while, but soon some of them were pushing it beyond logical reasoning. I agree this could give the impression to some that this may be a ponzi scheme. People are anyway wary of crypto's, as seen with Bitcoin, where mass adoption has not yet happened even after a decade of stability and rise. We should be more careful and discourage those that portray steemit as a gold mine to game and milk!
Exactly. Well articulated
@positive Speaking of promotion. I'm going to shamelessly leave this right here...

Mostly because I can't find anything more relevant and I know you were excited about it when we talked about it before :) Please stop by and check it out we need the upvotes and eyeballs.
Upvoted you! Enjoy!
@positive, I think atm whales are like growing their selfesteem with the blogs that talks about themselves, because like kids you have to keep constantly need gratification for one thing they did. Now, ok for a couple of blogs that are dedicated at glorifing steem, I know it' it's a wonderful invention and everyone should join it and share their life fact.
Problem is they all focus on the money, and not sharing what they like, so, we are mostly all concentrating at making money, we rush to write stuff where it's not innovative, and the rare times when a new tool for steemit comes out it get rewarded, that is great imo, but we need to stabilize ourself first. We need to start to differentiate arguments, but we also need more whales/dolphin, we can't rely on like what 20 whales to decide who's good and who's not, that's like saying ok, I love glorify my product, ok, do it, I will do an extensive video about it if the whales want, but for now, I will focus on MY stuff, I can always ask to the whales, what topics are you interested in? And all the flow of the money will me upon me. I just want to be free.
Good point
Funny, I thought you were referring to them as ATM whales. 'Power' needs to become differentiated.
> so, we are mostly all concentrating at making money, we rush to write stuff where it's not innovative, and the rare times when a new tool for steemit comes out it get rewarded, that is great imo, but we need to stabilize ourself first. We need to start to differentiate arguments,
That almost sounds as if I had written it, but only almost.
> I just want to be free.
Preach it, brother!
You're totally right, I'm glad the community is strong and happy but we should always be careful especially with a technology that deals with so many things at the same time, it's complex and we should always keep an eye open. This is logic :)
I think that it is good to see not everything through rose-colored glasses
I would agree.
cool
eminem?
really steeming something over there
what steamit needs now is encouragement ,life is all about risk i think we should give it a try.just be supportive and positive
That's like telling a kid with hemiparesis to grab the lowest branch of a walnut tree and race climb the other kids all the way up while being all "supportive and positive".
