RE: GARDENING PROGRESS!

in #steemit8 years ago

Thank you. This plum is very cold hardy. We have hot days and cold nights, but this plum takes it all in stride. I have 2 other plum varieties that are struggling. The others tend to bloom too soon in Spring before the bees are out. This one depicted here is self fertile and holds back on blooms a little longer.

Cool! Do you think a plum tree or a least a certain variety would grow in Nova Scotia, Canada?

I would think so. Many plums are good for Zone 4. The biggest concern I have is even though where I am is zone 5, we are actually zone 4 due to our micro climate. A couple of my other plums blossom too quickly in the Spring (one is good for Zone 5) and there are too few insects to pollinate. The one I pictured is good for zone 4, and was called a Russian Plum. Each year I get more and more fruit. Wish I could find another to plant.
