My steemit main page? My FEED! [ why I follow as many people as I'm being followed by ]

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I follow A LOT of people because I love to read my feed. I spend about an hour everyday reading catching up with the feed. It's a great way to get the pulse of Steemit for the day. Sure, the trending page is good too but it's mostly for what's popular that day.

The FEED is the steemit you dream of.

Why not make it amazing?
I am yet to hear people being proud of their feed. Setting up a great feed is like sowing the best curation seeds. These are the people you'll support the most. You'll see those people again and again and always be able to upvote when they put up something good and never miss anything. It's the way you help steemit be the steemit you WANT.

LATER EDIT: @mctiller made a great post in the comments " make your feed an excellent feed and you'll actually get paid for a good feed. Think about that for a second. "
This is really cool side-effect as you follow more people and help people to get better you'll eventually see them grow and their post do good and YOUR curation rewards will grow.
Of course, you can follow already popular people too and maybe get more rewards but I always have my eyes on the next breakout star :)

*Me + my feed:D"

So, I came up with this rule: I will always follow just as many people as they follow me. BUT not the same people, just people I find and like. I think that's a good rule that keeps me humble.
Who do I follow? I like a variety of stuff because I think that's how you stay ahead and grow. I'm looking always for people who make an effort in their posts, for good writing for interesting content, for well research content. I'm really really happy when I find someone new and good.
[PS: I am 11 people short to follow so if you think you are the right kind of person please leave a comment with your favorite Harry Potter character and I'll check you out! ]

Follow more people than you think you can handle

Whenever I check someone's posts, I also look at how many people they follow. I noticed that a lot of successful steemers don't follow a lot of people. I don't understand why not.
If you are a successful CONTENT CREATOR and you don't follow over 100 people you are not pulling your weight. Sorry, but you're missing the point. It's about really helping the community and discovering new people.
THEN helping them get ahead.

But also, a bigger feed is MORE FUN!. Why miss out on that?
I'm sure if you look, there are a ton of good people to follow with more joining every day.

My main point is this: a good feed will vastly improve your experience on steemit. Try it out, engage with people, comment and upvote what you like.
You'll grow.
They'll grow.
Steemit wil grow.

My feed is your feed.

I want to end by giving you a little tip. Something I do when I'm feeling like trying something new.
You can scroll thorough other people's feed! I love this feature.
Again, it's like seeing steemit through their eyes and their interest.
Try it out :)

till next time,
r.

Loved your post ! I currently follow 60 people, 61 now i will follow you! Lol , i do the same , when i first come on i read my feed, and upvote most of it! Whats new at least, also alot of my followers also follow me, im always looking for more followers so please feel free to do so! UPVOTED! THANKS!

Perfect image.

Yes. Totally agree. I also notice that my curation rewards have gone up. (Yes. I know there is more than just curation rewards, but...still.) The feed has helped. I also noticed that several people followed me, but haven't been active in awhile, so I'm not following those accounts back.

But yes, make your feed an excellent feed and you'll actually get paid for a good feed. Think about that for a second.

That's such a great point that I'll edit it in! Thanks!

This is funny.Guess where I found this post? Exactly on feed section, because I like spending time on that section. Great work!

it's amazing!!
PS: that gif is cool too

I was delighted when I found it too... You can see anyone else's feed on Steemit and follower the followers of bloggers you like! Awesome feature!

You are on my feed bro :D :) I think your content is great! :)

Yes I follow @razvanelulmarin
UPVOTES away 👍🚀🚀🚀
Follow back?

Mmmm dificult question...favourite character...mmmm...hermione i guess but i think that answer is influenced by the fact that she is so hot nowdays...

Nice strategy. I currently follow 79 people and always looking for more. A great way to do so is to actually click articles in the steemit.chat channel rather than what most people do in just spamming their own articles.

And following people with a different perspective than you is always a great idea to avoid confirmation bias.

i fear the echo chamber :)

Haha... I'm such a Steemit noob... I was wondering where a followed/liked "Feed" was like on Facebook... and totally missed it where my name is... sigh... Thanks for writing this! It has helped my Steemit experience grow by 100% just now. I was thinking it was a lacking feature... and there it was all along! Feeling pretty idiotic to have missed that. I have been focusing more on posting my content with my time, than on looking at all the features steemit has.

You can also check out my work that I have so far posted to steemit. I think you may appreciate its quality, but that is up to you to decide.

Peace.

i now wonder if you read the post or not:)

I chose not to put a Harry Potter character, because I didn't want to. If someone wants to follow me for my work, it speaks for itself ;) Is that what you are referring to? LOL. Thanks.

yeap. i mean, i put that there like a fail safe to see if ppl actually read or just comment for some fast upvotes. i have already followed you though because you DO write cool stuff :D

Hehe. Thanks! I read all the posts I comment on :D Peace.

Followers is always good, but need to understand what everyone wait for your help and upvote.
But not always you can support all your followers because voice power decreasing.

voice power :)

Great post! Those I follow has grown rapidly and I start off looking in my feed. Then hopefully have enough time to look at new articles coming in to find more authors I enjoy.

Have noticed that my curation rewards with the quality authors I follow makes me more than most of my posts (sadly, despite the quality).

Win-Win working the feed.

yeah. but still there's a question of: should you follow "established" authors so you catch the curation rewards?...I think a mix of both is needed :)

Agreed. And as much as I always want to return the favor of someone that follows me. I think its more important to focus on following those with content I enjoy and appreciate. Regardless of their popularity.

Great reasoning and post@razvanelulmarin, Steemit is like building or mining it grows with patience & time. All the best to all steamers.

sorry for not carrying my weight, dude

:)) you upvoted me so you're forgiven!

I just posted about how I feel terrible when I don't follow someone back. Thought we shared that, you took a great route and love the reasoning. Great post

why do you feel terrible and why don't you? sorry, did not catch the post.

Love it dude, I do the same dang thing!!!

If this is true

Hello @razvanelulmarin. Thank you for this writing. I am very new to the community. Similar to you, I want to love my feeds and look forward to reading them every day. Being selective and stay authentic is crucial. And I like your proposal of # of followers = # of people you follow. cheers
