Youtube Viewers VS Steemian Readers | Why It's Hard for Minnows and How We Can Help Steemit Grow.

Steemit is a wonderful community with friendly people and great content to enjoy. Steemians want the community to grow and luckily, a lot of Youtubers have been venturing into the world of Steemit. As a Youtuber I recently made the jump over to Steemit and I learned very quickly that Steemians and Youtube viewers are VERY different! I thought the demographics and interests would be similar to Youtube viewers but I was wrong. I can only speculate but here just a few reasons why that might be so:

-Steemians are generally older than a huge majority of Youtube viewers that are between 13-18
-Steemit is predominantly male at the moment (just speculation)
-There is a lot of interest in cryptocurrency
-Less emphasis on video content and more on writing/photos to express your opinions.

I feel based off of my own experience that it may be hard for Youtubers to settle in here because they aren't aware of what content YOU love to see. Steemians have their own unique interests that are different than the general Youtube audience. This is wonderful, but not if you are unaware of the difference. Something that does well on Youtube may get zero attention on Steemit which can leave us minnows feeling confused and discouraged.

We can help minnows understand their new audience better, Youtubers or not, by sharing what our interests are and saying what WE would want to see more of on our Steemit feed. Let's use this post as a way to open up conversation about just that. Help minnows stay for the long haul and in turn help the Steemit community grow stronger. I think it's about time Youtube had some competition, let's make that happen.

I am a minnow. I would love to see more comedy, life hacks, and crazy stories on my Steemit feed. I would also enjoy more beauty related content.

What about you?

Please Participate! Thanks! :)

Welcome @Rebeccagomez !! Glad to see you, hope you enjoy here as much as i do ! Nice post, i will follow your account, please follow me at @khunpoom

Of course Thank you so much! I would love to know what kind of posts you would like to see more of here on Steemit? :)

Good use of the topics and tags should help. Both in finding content you enjoy, and helping your audience find you.

I see you've already found the #MinnowSupportProject which will help out a lot.

Otherwise, I'm hoping Steemit improves its discovery features over time so that just a few topics don't drown everything else out.

Thanks so much! The tags are a little overwhelming haha but it's a good place to start thanks for your advice!

Hi welcome i am @djnoel ;)

Hi :) Thanks so much for the support! What are your favorite things to see on steemit?

I feel steem lacks good topics (compared to reddit).

Also since the general opinion I see is that you should be using steem like a blog; people expect quality posts. I think that makes the barrier to entry high.

That's so true! I myself already have a blog that I pay for so I would love to be able to use Steemit in a unique way separate from my blog.

At the moment, true.... but the younger people will come here more and more in the next year and Steemit is Facebook but with money.

I hope they will, but the thing is Facebook is pretty much obsolete when it comes to the younger generation, I think Steemit would have a better chance with the younger generation if the platform was a little more like youtube.

Agreed. And Steemit will continue to evolve more and more often than Facebook and YouTube and everything that came before Steemit.
