There is an element of "chance" to Steemit. It's just like a game. Will someone with some influence see your work and will they like it?
We all keep contributing because we like to, we're risk-takers and because of the friends that we have made or can make. There is no fear in that at all.
I've worked at this for 11 months, almost everyday. In the beginning I had posts that made less than 10 cents. Last week was the first time that I've ever had a post make over $100 SBD and I have put everything that I have made into Steemit in Steem Power, meaning I haven't cashed any out yet and basically have re-invested it back into the platform because I believe in it.
When you are first starting out, anytime you make over $1 you are doing well. The folks you see who are making thousands per post have been here since the very beginning and/or they are whales and they all have a huge number of followers.
As I see it, you will need to decide if you are willing to: work, build your reputation and your followers because that's what it takes to be successful here.

No, I don't mind. There were many times that I became frustrated and considered quitting. Then, I reasoned that I can make the time in my life right now to take this risk and give Steemit a shot. This is what I am doing...taking my best shot and it's finely starting to pay-off. However, it takes time and you will have great days and not so great days. ;)
