Not only does it lead to social dislocation, but in economic terms it also leads to lower growth rates. Not that high growth rates is something that we want (if that growth is unsustainable), but it's a counterpoint to the economic rationalists who argue that it's desirable to get as much wealth into the hands of the so-called "wealth creators" as possible.
