I have heard people critisize steemit platform as being biased, skewed, etc with many going as far as saying that it is centralized in the hands of a few. Criticism on its own is not bad. In fact any move to gag that would be moving into autocracy and despotism. However, I want to inform all the people criticizing steemit and the general steem blockchain that they are still looking at one side of the coin.
I want to start by reminding us what steemit is all about. A platform where you just register, and start posting content for monetary reward. You are not required to contribute anything before you start earning. Someone may argue that if you blog using other platforms like wordpress and blogger that you will still earn money. Yes that is true but it is not as easy as steemit. For you to blog as you want in wordpress and blogger, you may have to spend some cash and gain some technical know how. Even if you opt for the free versions of the platform, you will face some restrictions that may not allow you to blog as you may want and you equally share profit with them.
Also blogging on other platforms takes a lot of patience before you start getting reasonable earnings. Here in steemit, I have seen people who joined for one month and have earned up to 5000 dollars. You cannot get that, in such a short time, doing normal blogging with any of the aforementioned platform, where you monetize traffic. Traffic takes a while to build up and it is not an easy fit to achieve.
Having said all these, I can categorically say it here, without bias, that steemit is in a class of its own. There are several good things about steemit we all need to talk about. The topmost being that you just sign in without any expenses and start making money. We all need to pause to appreciate the fact that this platform is putting food on the table of countless people in the world today without requesting for any pay back or equity contribution
Imagine how many jobless folks who are making a living just blogging on this platform. I just thought of this and sincerely wish to say thank you to @dan and all the people that made this platform become a reality. I will not also forget to say thank you to all the people who run the nodes that are powering the platform in form of witnesses. You guys are highly appreciated.
I may not need this place to feed my family but considering there are a lot of people who do, I can only pause to imagine how many hungry stomach this platform is feeding on a daily basis.
I read this post from @firepower about how he was lifted from hopelessness into abundance in steemit and I almost shed tears. This is the type of story that will let you know the significance of this platform. Steemit is not like any other platform I know anywhere and there is no gainsaying it. It is a vision that has lifted many and is still doing.
Is Steemit Perfect?
Tell me what is perfect in this life. There is no point talking about perfection in the world we live in. Steemit cannot be singled out for perfection; doing that would be like asking humans to recreate the world. This is because the world was made to be imperfect by the Creator. There is nothing in life that is perfect so Steemit is no exception. That said, I believe that the platform is still evolving and that means that some of the things we are not happy about now would be gradually sorted out.
How About All The Complaints About Few People Earning A lot
Well, the complain is expected. Those who are complaining now are those who are yet to get there. Have you seen anyone in the trending page complaining? That is human; people complain when they are not getting to where they want to get to, the moment they join the league of those who are making it big, they will stop complaining. That shows that complaint will always exist. There is no way a new entrant into the system will expect to be making the same as someone who has churned out over 5000 posts and has blogged for 10 months before the new entrant joined.
There is also cases were popular bloggers in other platforms like youtube, with great following, joined steemit with their followers. This should be a welcome development. However, when they start earning high, some people will start grumbling which in my opinion is not necessary. This class of people should serve as a motivation for those who are not making as much that anybody can reach any height with steemit. All the followers they bring to the platform is for the benefit of all. You cannot stop the huge followers they joined with from upvoting their contents.
A Poser
Tell me any other platform out there that is doing what steemit is doing presently. Steemit is giving back to the community and in turn the society, so it is more socially responsible than most huge corporations we have in the world today. There are several stories of people who literally feed from proceeds from blogging in steemit on a daily basis. We may not get to hear their voices but they exist in abundance here. An article like the one I posted above from @firepower will go along way to open your eyes to the potential of this platform and why all of us should work together to preserve it.
Can We Think Of What We Can Do For Steemit?
John F. Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" in his famous inauguration speech. Now can we all think of what we can do for steemit to advance her course instead of all asking for what we can gain from steemit!!! Thoughts like this will only help to grow the platform and make it what all of us want it to be. Someone had this vision and brought it to existence, all of us have a duty to push it forward to where it has not yet reached.
Conclusion
Steemit is a great platform and it is doing great things; a platform like this should be commended and not demonized because it is saving lives. If you think of how many indigent people from third world countries that can have a decent meal just for posting articles here, then you will appreciate the power that this platform is carrying.
Let us all join hands to promote steemit. Let us all mind what we say to people outside concerning the platform. Let us mind the things we write outside here concerning the platform. Thank you all for reading.

@richguy this is a timely post. Many steemian thinking about what Steemit will do for them and neglect there colleagues. While helping others should be the major goal in Steemit . As use to say your understanding determines stand. Helping others should be our guidelines. @richguy God bless you for this inspired and motivated post.

I am happy that you enjoyed this article. Steem on brother.
That makes sense. It would do for all of us to be more patient and compassionate.
Yes you are right...
Thanks Rich Guy! I harbored similar reservations when first joining but I decided to just stick it out and post relentlessly.... Albeit, it is quite disheartening to see a well crafted post fall between the cracks sometimes...
I think this post has a lot to teach the community, so I resteemed for you.
Until next time.... Peace!
Thank you for your encouraging words brother. Yes it comes once in a while where we feel we should be doing better but that is actually the selfishness and greed in us at work at such time.
Over time, everyone will feel better. I wrote this post to highlight some salient point we miss when we all grumble about the platform. Thanks again.
You bet!

rich guy, your article was honest and to the point. I know nothing is perfect and a newbie like Steemit will evolve as we make strides up and above. Someone suggested that we should have our own exchange on Steemit (that's a good suggestion to make Steemit bigger).
I also had provided some ideas like using Uber/Fiverr/Apple Stores to bring Steemit to masses. Please let me know your feedback. I would be honored if you resteemed it more than your upvotes!
Thank you for your kind words brother.
Very gud post.
Great post mate - next on my resteem list
