FOLLOW4FOLLOW?!
Types of comments that are annoying and will not get you followed:
- Upvoted! Be sure to check out my blog for more cool content!
- Following now - Follow me back pls
- Upvote me!
- This post was really informative, upvoted. Follow me! (especially on a non-informative post)
- I see you like humor! You may enjoy my newest post that I copy and pasted about nuclear fission.
- Follow me!
- I LOVE THIS! Following you now, check out my post! (especially on a sad post about how their grandmother just died last week.)
- You seem cool! Check out my latest post, it is super full of the coolest coolness ever.
- Check out my blog and show your support!
- Follow my blog, all of the cool kids are doing it!
If you want a follow or an upvote, then engage me!
Give me reason to follow you! Show me that you have what it takes!
The types of comments above are not ok. Don't beg for upvotes or follows , instead, ENGAGE other users and begin to grow your own online community to your liking!
That's a hilarious picture. The eyes, are digging deep into my soul begging for an upvote! hahahaha
Don't let her win! Resist!
As a "minnow", I am under the impression this is the direct result of the transitional phase from other social media platforms and the preconceived notions of proper etiquette where it was a race to see who could get the most votes(followers) for high school prom king/queen. Not that I am justifying or advocating their actions and I am not making excuses for anyone, myself included. This isn't like any other social media platform and once people have a clear understanding of that I believe is when ALL the magic will happen.
Starting off new in Steemit is like hitchhiking on the autobahn. Chances are nobody is going to slow down, so you have to just jump the hood of the next car and hang on for dear life until you are able to make it to the passenger seat. From there, hopefully the driver is kind enough to let you watch how they shift through the gears and actually drive in a safe manner where you aren't causing a pileup in your rear view mirror.
As a community, this is like a huge dance. The music has started and everyone is finding their rhythm. Some are able to find the beat, while others have two left feet. The important thing is that we all have fun and try not to step on anyone's toes. With that being said, it is time for me to Stop, Drop and Lock it...thank you for your patience and understanding.
This gave me the greatest mental image ever. haha Your comment is well thought out, and I totally agree, the transition from normal social media plays a huge part in the spammy comments. I have faith that one day, this platform will be the best social media site ever!
Yeah, I am a visual person, but I can't draw or paint. I am happy that I was able to find the right words to add a moving picture in your head. Hopefully it involved pastel colors and a cool soundtrack.
As a community, we are in the middle of a huge transition period a paradigm shift of monumental scale.
The soundtrack was badass - Straight out of a Bruce Willis movie.
I agree!
SWEET!!! Time to get the adrenaline pumping...
word to that brother ;)
Shades are on, top is down, radio is blasting and now it's time to work these gears like Tommy Lee slaps the drums.
It is a strange and new dynamic compared to Google+. I have 11K followers over there, but Google censors content. The site is dead because of it too. There's no point in engaging with people to further liberty or share your passions anymore.
I came to Steemit to share my knowledge about residential security and perhaps a little about private investigation (I don't want to share too much to avoid getting people into legal or other trouble). It is weird to me though that there isn't even a category here for residentialsecurity.
Most people here have homes, right? Sure, they may live in an apartment, but it still benefits from good security. The only security category here though is for crypto and other IT security.
I've wasted 20 years of my life running on an IT hamster wheel (job). I'm not doing it anymore. I'm going to be a PI and help people with residential security. I'm here to pursue those passions and share them with others.
Hopefully, Steemians see value in what I have to share.
Very interesting! You would definitely be the first person talking about these things here, so that could work to your benefit!
I am puzzled as to why there are no other security people here. There seems to be no private investigators or locksmiths or anyone related to security services. Am I missing something? It seems like valuable content to share that people would be interested in, right? Everyone has a house. Everyone could benefit from better personal security too.
You would think so!
@finnian - I would love to hear about home security or PI stuff - Just a suggestion but maybe tell some stories of real life experiences from your PI work - (no real names obviously) but I always wanted to be on a stakeout like in those cheesy 80's movies where they are eating pizza in a car with binoculars and never end up seeing anything cool - hopefully you have tho and your niche could be in storytelling the PI lifestyle - Real talk - I know this post is old but maybe you'll read your replies ya digg?
Youm sir, win at engagement, @sirwin
This community is the definition of a melting pot and an ability for like minded individuals to met and also get the opportunity to be exposed to something they may have never heard of before. Up until last week, I had never heard of Steemit and look at me now, I feel like I am one of it's biggest advocates.
Yup. Friends give me a hard time because crypto and Steemit is what I talk to much :D
There is nothing wrong with being passionate about something. Having a strong convection and knowing that in your heart of hearts that no matter what the "nay says" may say, that you are on the right path. It is the bold risk takers that are rewarded the greatest. We are kindred souls here and that is fantastic.
Good chanse to follow :)
https://steemit.com/steemit/@niceviewsua/you-need-some-upvotes-for-your-posts-im-need-it
fucking thankyou Rigaroni!!! Shit drives me crazy, I'm always tempted to flag people...I actually DID on someone else's post the other day, and they wrote me a nice message asking me to please stop harassing their followers :P Woops, I took it back and apologized...guess I should stick to people who are on my posts.
At any rate, i LOVE your face!!!! Im assuming thats you, I don't know, great face though
ah maybe not your face...I still love it
@itchykitten you might like the comment I made about that recently in a similar post.
Bad drakos! Bad, bad!
(see above)
(see above) where? what?
My post, duuuuuh! ;)
Ah lol. @itchykitten and I are already followers of eachother 🤣, instead of pasting what I said in the other post, I referenced it. I wasn't asking him to "follow me follow you" crap. Did you even look at the comment I linked?
Yes I did. I'm just being an asshole - I'm learning to embrace who I really am...LOL! But for real, it was actually just a joke.
Hahaha Yeah, people can get sensitive at times, but I guess sticking to our own followers and posts is probably the better idea.
Thanks so much for awesome comment, buddy! I know engagement when I see it. ;)
As my posts usually dont engage so many people, I am always a bit excited if I see a red number at the reply tab and always I get a bit mad if its a copy pasted " nice post! plz follow me!"
I think people need to realize that a huge following means nothing, if its only "empty" followers you get through this. They will not engage with your content and all it does is filling your feed with posts you are propaply not really interested in and vice versa.
Oh my goodness, I wrote something very similar yesterday. I get really excited to see that comment and then poof. No more excitement when the comment that was left has nothing to do with the post and they really aren't engaging with you. Just trying to build up their followers numbers. I guess I'm getting better at ignoring it now though!
Gatorskin +1!!!
Exactly, empty followers do nothing for your following. I agree, for sure!
Agree as well. I like to give my follows to members bringing the content that I like and enjoy reading. So my feed is full of interesting articles and valuable information. Following just for a follow back creates a fake sense of being followed, since most of them will come from people that are not interested in your content. I prefer to go to a slower peace but more solid and trustable. Giving follows away devaluates the quality of Steemit conten, for sure. While, following only good content providing members, does the opposite.
Thanks for such a great post!
Woot woot! I hear ya, man!
Ahhh tell me about it. Drives me nuts!
It's made me crazy. There has been a huge influx of it recently.
Yes I get them on most posts sadly :-(
I've gotten them on mine also in recent days. I try to just ignore them. haha
Me too i've given up trying to advise lol
as new people are coming on the platform and they think that this is the best way to get to the top, but i think it is not their fault either, because there are very little guidance for them on the internet, these type of people just heard that you can earn on the internet and they are here for the money only, sure we all want money at the end but at least we some mature community members are a little educated in this matter @rigaronib
That's why I'm edumacating them! Haha ;)
Yes very annoying..and also annoying is that it works quite well for some of them. They are being rewarded not for their content/engagement, but rather for their spamming..
Good point, I agree
This is true! Luckily, their tactics work much more slowly. :) Thanks for your comment, @foodie.warrior!
I totally agree! I started that way for like a day! and was like Well, if they truly dont check their feed and are just here to make a quick buck then why would i want them to follow me anyways? I want followers who actually find and like my stuff!
Exactly!
Loved your informative post, please upvote and follow my blog! HA HA I cannot resist!
While you are right, I feel for new users like my friend who I just bought to steemit, its hard to carve a following, and she is trying to put up valuable content.
Of course it can be difficult! Any social media platform is difficult to get started on, but my wife, @uglysweater, is a recent example that engagement is the only legitimate way to success.
She began commenting and engaging people exactly 16 days ago, 5 days later she made her first ever post and within those 16 days she has gained 221 followers. That is huge! Her following has grown way faster than mine did when I started last August.
And her only secret tactic?
Nothing more than engagement. :)
Btw, what is your friend's handle on here?
Oh sure no dis-agreement from me there, its definately something you have to work at, my friend is here just a few days her handle is @demilee-fitness
Oh and yeas I remember @uglysweater, she made a really nice intro post
For sure! Thanks for engaging, @scalextrix. You da man.
Ok cool - consider her followed, I will watch for her content. :)
Wow, neat! I'm glad that you remember her!
Thanks alot @rigaronib, see you around the campfire again soon I hope
Sounds good to me, man! Have an awesome Sunday.
LOL, the private messages on these follow me/upvote me people is insane on steemit chat 🤣, if they spent more time commenting like normal people aka the 'social' part you mention, things would be a lot easier for them 😁
I know, They are getting bad on Steemit.chat.
Engagement is key!
Darn right, these people will quit after a few days and then a new batch will come through doing the same stuff with the same results. The ones that interact normally are the ones that will level up 🙌
That's for sure! haha Thanks for the comment, @sandstorm!
Cheers dude! have a great Sunday 😎
Hey, you do the same! :D
What about this....
people who don't follow me are 300% more likely to develope and STD at some point in their lifetime. If you don't want an STD you should follow me and upvote as well
lol
Aiy! Atleast that one makes me laugh! Haha
Right on, Brothah!!! Great post @rigaronib!👍👍👍
Haha Thanks, Gringa!
A comment that is relevant to the post actually gives the person commenting a better chance of getting followers or getting more upvotes themselves in the long run.
You spit nothing but truth! I agree completely, @ptmikesteem.
Ahh..you read my mind.. I was actually thinking about making a similar post about this!
You should! The more it's said, the more obvious it will become!
Absolutely agree. :) This seems to be a big issue with this platform more than others.
I want to have a conversation with someone. It should be organic and natural. :)
So. Much. Yes.
Thanks for the engagement, @vegetarian baker!
You are very welcome. :)
It's almost as bad as people following and then unfollowing you once you follow them back on instagram.
I'm not on Instagram, but that would drive me crazy!
It's stupid. So stupid.
You miss one more thing that i resteem your post now you have to resteem my. I got this offer too but i told him to unresteem my post because if you vote for me fine if i like your post fine but you did my therefor i must have to do your is not good. Everyone have their own rights that they can do what they want. Sometimes i did for supports friends.
Agreed, @birjudanak!
You're right, I only just started and find it annoying already. I have to honestly say that I once mentioned my post in someone's post, but only because they were closely linked and I never asked for a follow. I'm too shy to do that haha. I was never a good telemarketer when I was because I'd just say: OK. When someone said no and didn't hang on like a pitbull.
Then you are already 100000% more likable than a telemarketer! ;)
Keep steeming, we need people like you!
Awe thanks, that's a nice thing to say! Will be going full steem ahead :)
Here they at least use whole sentences. On other platforms they simply leave one word like “nice“. It was such a nice virus I even made a shirt about it
Really? What does the tshirt say?
This is really cool :0) followed and upvoted
Ahahaha This is fantastic!
That's the plague in Flickr at least. I never get any critique, not even when I explicitly welcome it.
I agree to your blog, but of course its also a community to help each other, correct me if i am wrong.. i am person who do what i say.. i say i upvoted you it means I really upvoted you.. nice blog.. peace..
As long as it's not always the same commentin a spammy way!
Believe it or not, there is more to STEEM than upvotes. ;)
Thanks for the reply, man!
yeah i got you on that point, I appreciate everything and every ideas you share and I already followed you but I didn't upvote your blog yet because I'm recharging my voting strength.. but what should I tell to a steem mate if I want him/her to follow or upvote me? I think in much easier way is to tell them straight away... Thanks for the reply on my reply.. :)
You shouldn't have to tell them anything! If you are producing quality content that they like and engaging/making friends with them on their own posts, they will follow you. :)
For example, in real life you wouldn't go up to some stranger whom you overheard say something that you agree with and say: "HEY IF YOU'LL BE MY FRIEND, I'LL BE YOURS!!!!1!1!!1", right? If someone did that to me, I'd be like, "Uh, you're a creep, go away". haha
Btw, your engagement on my post, has gained you a new follower. Now show me what kind of awesome content you can create!
wow!!! really?! in that case a lot of thanks and i upvoted now this blog.. anyway i'll be keeping in touch with your blogs...
Haha Ok, thanks! Have an awesome day, man!
Honestly as a new user it can be very tempting, given how well it works for some of those spammers. However, seeing how people around here are invested in trying to make steemit the best social media is definitely encouraging, and I assume that at some point those spammers get flagged.
This comment makes me happy! Thanks, @anomiej!
i always use my heart and time to finish a post ,and every time i saw "follow me and follow back" only down my comment ,broken my heart sometimes:(
It is definitely discouraging!
Yeah... THAT!
I'd love to say I';m surprised by how often this seems to happen on Steemit, but the sad truth is that I am NOT surprised... as I have seen this type of activity on dozens of other sites (in the past) that offered "rewards" for content posted.
I just can't help but wonder-- ESPECIALLY since many of these folks have come here from other social media-- whether these people have totally forgotten that it took them six years to get their 800 "friends" on FakeBook or their 1100 "followers" on tweedledumb? And the reason it should suddenly happen instantaneously (and evidently without work?!?!) on Steemit it... what? Anyone? Anyone....? Bueller...?
As you said, social media is about engagement. Besides (saying this as having run social media accounts for several businesses) having 1000 "tit-for-tat followers" generally gives less lasting value than having 50 authentic readers who actually followed you because you were interesting to them...
/end rant (sorry 'bout that....)
Uh-oh! Looks like @reddragonfly was #triggered! lol
I'm right there in total agreement with you, friend!
Yeah, I confess. I was triggered... :D
Let the trigger flow through you. haha
That's right. That approach will not work. I don't usually leave links to my posts in comments but this post is exactly what I posted about the other day.
I've been on Steemit for awhile now and put together a list of great tips for newbies that your post touches on. I just go into more detail.
You're spot on. Good advice.
Perfect! With the HUGE influx of new users recently, we definitely need this kind of content.
Keep it coming, man!
What other burning questions do new users have we can help them with?
I must say that when I first started, I wish I would've had a bit of a background in crypto, because I just couldn't quite grasp where the "money" came from. I think that is something that really hinders people from joining up when they first hear about it.
Yeah those follow4follow people are getting annoying and worse than that is there is a little rat bastard named @crypto-p who will go and tell people he followed them and a lot of times people follow him back because they don't check if he really followed them. Most people aren't going to verify if he really did it. So now he has racked up a big following and he never upvotes their content. He just writes the comment. Upvotes the comment and lies to the user. It is sad.
Oh c'mon! Are you serious?! What a shithead.
This kind of circle jerking is very annoying and very common.
Nothing destroys a site faster than circle jerks.
Shun them. Let their Reputations languish and keep their SP balances in the single digits.
Hey that's really cool, I love your post, I think you'd love mine t... Err hey... waaaait a minute.
I mean >.< haha, yeah I get that too ;)
Seriously though, that kind of comment is circa 10 years ago. It used to be everywhere on some of the earlier social media platforms. Nowadays it's just a simple right-click-block action and be done with it.
Incidentally, one of my finest pieces of work was a loop of JBfangirl. It's pretty creepy, mind.
Oh. My. Gosh....I don't even know what to do with this! LOL
This is true! Time to break old habits. :)
No. The answer is no. ;)
That thumbnail keeps freaking me out!
MISSION:Accomplished
Congratulations @rigaronib!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:
Wow! Thanks, @arcange!
I love this place and I agree!
It is a pretty great place. :)
I just posted a post with the unwritten rules (in dutch), I also think it's very needy when they ask to follow back or to upvote. bless you
Unfortunately I don't speak dutch. Haha
I agree, it comes of very needy.
You are right! People are doing this because they think they can get faster followers 😁
#truestory! :)
LMAOOOOO I just died. Lana is awesome, I still watch her videos, even though she has toned them down quite a bit.
Hahaha Glad you liked it! :)
Great post... I have a similar one you should see heheheh
Just kidding, great post!
LOL Stahp.
Thanks, @maxjoy!
Starting to feel like dating. "I bought you dinner for heavens sake, when do I get some?" Lol
LOL! Totally!
Hehe. This is so true.
Haha I should've ended it with - "AMIRIGHT?!"
There's also a type of people that don't even say anything about your post, they just demand you follow them and upvote. I don't wanna be an asshole, but I also wanna reserve the right to pick the persons I follow!
I know! That is the worst.
Agreed, I'll follow you if I like your content, regardless of whether or not you follow me back...and if you have to beg me to follow you, I probably don't want to see your content, anyways.
C'mon, people! Get your acts together!
Follow me and I will show u my nipples xDD ( u forgot that)
You have to promise to keep your third nipple covered...LOL
haha xD
You get it right on that.
Haha, glad you agree. :)
Absolutely! I had a commenter who wrote that they upvoted and followed me but did NOT actually do it, plus provided a link to their blog.
People are idiots.
Same here, i followed you
Thanks
Love that first image! =)
Stealing that to answer some of these follow4follow upvote4upvote requests.
Hey, at least you are an honest thief! :D
I say go for it! Steal away.
;-)
Resteem me!! That's my favourite :-)
OMG! Gag me with a fork. LOL!
Ah the approaches in chat too. Neverending!!
I hate it worst when it is a reply to a comment on another person's post. I think it's quite rude!!!
I KNOW! That's incredibly rude, imo.
Good to see you around, Boom-man!
Great post! Agreed! I think one of the reasons that this is starting to happen more now than ever on Steemit is that Steemit is different than other social media platforms in a very big way. And this is not Facebook or instagram where people do follow for follow and make meaningless comments, this is a platform built on the quality of content, including comments. So I feel like part of what's happening is that people feel that they can bring over these habits from other social media platforms in a setting where it doesn't make sense and won't be supported.
Exactly!
It's time to break these habits! Old social media makes you a zombie, Steemit undoes that.
Lol agreed
I agree 100%!!! So annoying!
BTW This was very informative. Upvoted! Please check out my recent post and upvote. Follow4follow? 😂😂😂
Hahaha Thanks for the laugh. :)
Haha! Glad I could be of service! Heehee!
Well said! It's so annoying!
Agreed!
follow back hahahahhaha its a joke.
But I think that's right there anyway you said. These comments are annoying, lately I have commented only on subjects that really interest me in talking and exchanging ideas
I agree completely!
I agree thanks @rigaronib
And thank you, sir!
Totally agree with you !
Thanks for engaging, @ixindamix!
Preach!
You know it!
