Yesterday, I looked down in the Comments Section of a Blog Post of mine and saw this! ( First part of Title of my Post in quotes) Geesh people, come on now !! I'm new but even I know better.
Are Some People just Asinine to Think this Could Work ??
Quite honestly to me it's just commonsense. Someone takes time to write a thought provoking, insightful blog post and a person should reply with a thought provoking, insightful Comment. Doesn't have to be a Pulitzer award winning reply. Just something that adds to the discussion. That's all. But people who think they will get Followers, Upvotes etc.. using this technique and find success here at Steemit are sorely mistaken
How to leave a Good Comment ??
A good way is to give your own example and experience as it relates to the discussion. For instance, if someone is talking about Converting Crypto to Fiat why not give your angle on it with how you personally did the Conversion. Just make sure the experience is relevant to the subject matter. Just do not get off on a tangent about YOU !!
What Can We All Do ?
Well, if you cannot leave a Comment on a blog post that adds value to the discussion, then just don't Comment at all. If you want to say is "thanks" then just give the appropriate Upvote and that's it . Otherwise, you are just wasting space ;)
BOTTOM LINE : Just say "NO" to drive by Comments
Ones that are only there to get Exposure and Followers, Upvotes etc... It simply will not work at Steemit :) This is a social atmosphere and just like going to a party at your friends house you want to mingle , interact, and connect among the party crowd . Otherwise you sit there alone in the corner of the room looking like a fool with no friends :)
Cheers,
Robert
Nice post, good comment, upboat me I upboat you, seriously though, just mute them, when they can no longer be heard, then they will have to go away, I do it to ALL of them, without a care in the world, no value added = MUTED.
I have seen an increase of these type of posts due to the crazy amount of new steemers here. I think we need tour guides or something for brand new users. Maybe a training video, lol. The what to and not to do for newbies. They see that they get a cent here or there but not how annoying or just lazy it is. RESPECT
This.
For the most part, I believe it stems from real-life cultural mannerisms: be nice to others. Treat others how you wish to be treated...that sort of thing. Its when two people berate each other with compliments, well-intended, but shallow and ultimately self serving. The best advice to this, I've found from millionaires, that to be a good "giver" one must practice being a good receiver.
lol, just let people compliment whatever, accept the positive comments, and walk away after a brief thank you. It doesn't need to tennis back and forth after that.
I RESPECT that point as well. It is important to be humble. Thank you for sharing your insight.
Thanks @fracasgrimm. Totally agree. Maybe a training video with proven techniques on how to interact on blogs and comments . I get it. I take blogging for granted. Been doing it forever. So I understand people who have zero experience. It's a learning process !!
Hey, can you upvote my latest post?
I kid, I kid. I've gotten my share of those, and it's almost always from accounts that only post referral schemes. They're the most annoying, because they're the ones who really don't contribute to the growth of Steemit. I'd rather my followers engage, ask questions, and converse with me. That's far more productive for growth than begging for shares.
Thank you @ddrfr33k . Totally spot on
That last paragraph conjured up images of a guy walking through a party that he's hosting at his house, not actually talking to anyone but just walking around going "Hey, I like you, I hope you like me!" and then just walking away.
thanks. follow for follow. JUST KIDDING! haha.
seriously, though, there are people here to connect, and people here to collect. those drive by comments, as you call them (which is a great term, btw) are basically cold callers. online they are spammers. they just cant resist. its a numbers game. its unfortunate but somewhere along the way, they missed the opportunity. maybe they will come around.
Thanks @phedizzle. Yeah I even noticed that some of the big guys do give some of these shady people second chances. I think I saw where @papa-pepper called some other member out for using his pepper logo. If I recall the guy was sorry and took it down and papa-pepper said well you have redeemed yourself or something to that extent. Really nice of him to forgive.
some of the people spamming on here, i dont think they really understand what they are doing or the results of what they are doing. so, its nice to see the whales giving second chances to people. i see it on PAL, too. some of the spammers, they have NO SHAME though. no shame.
Upvote my post.
prime example. spammy spam spam
To flag or not to flag... I even contemplate spamming the fools in return with scammy promises, earn from their upvotes somehow. But it goes against my nature and I end up UNFLAGGING in the end. I'm a total loser LOL
no, you're not. its not being a loser to feel weird about flagging. however, keep in mind, that's what flagging is built into the design of this platform for. to flag posts that you feel are not valuable. it costs voting power to flag. i don't know if you get that voting power back if you unflag. so, if you spend the voting power to flag, maybe don't undo it. it's not like you are flagging to be a jerk. you are flagging because they earned it haha. also, im not exactly sure how steemcleaners work, but they can somehow be summoned to posts where there is suspected abuse such as spam or copy/paste/plagiarism.
You are right - I checked soon after flag/unflag actions - it counts as TWO votes. He deserved one downvote I gave him two and spent 2 votes myself. What you said makes so much sense.
Quite simply, I don't just "like" anything without reply to reason. It IS lazy to drive-by with a view or like something without really validating the information. Can't train everyone, but in principle, it's a universality that needs to be reciprocated for this whole thing to work for EVERYONE.
There was an article the other day and someone was writing whether you should read the article first before you Upvote. Honestly, it never dawned on me that there was any other way. Bizarre to me.
Thanks for your Comments @craigahamilton :)

Upvote my post plz
LOL...classic !! Just simply classic :)
They are desperate..
"Drive by comments" I also get flooded with it, especially on dtube, If I upload a 10 minute video theres no way you should be commenting on it 5 whole seconds after its live...
A good chunk of these comments are poorly disguised bot-spam too. Bots are potentially one of the biggest threats to this ecosystem. While they can useful, helpful and fun I'm starting to see examples of them being used for things like spamming, reward pool manipulation, aggressive automated down-voting of competitors. The bots are coming and us humans better figure out how to mitigate them before they fill our feeds with spamvertising.
Haha this 🙌🏼
Spot on my friend, one interesting feature to implement on Steemit would be some sort of spam mechanism, because really, it clutters and takes away quite a lot from the Steemian experience with all these shitty comments.
Thanks @williamwest. Yep that would be nice. Iam sure as time goes on hopefully they will keep implementing more an more things to help with stuff like this.

2 months here so don't know if am still new but one thing i know is, i usually wonder why the hell do they do that!!!! they just want to get followers, and that does not determine your earnings, when will people learn. well since you have talked about it hopefully many people will learn from it.
"drive by comments" now that I will remember! While I hope you're right, a glance though the hot posts shows it isn't always the good content, though-provoking threads that are doing 'whale', but the potential for rewards appears to matter more in the game of follow me let's go make money game.
maybe I am downright pessimistic, but I am seeing the worst of human nature on display around here a lot. I am leaning toward getting down with the pigs and cashing in the mud. I can sleep at night telling myself I am not doing it to earn money but for the exposure, that in the end, it's for the right reasons I am joining them. If I don't join them, they beat me.
Yeah, I feel a lot of that is a mix of cultural differences and language barriers. Some memebers from the Asian/Indian regions are very blunt/direct, but I don't believe it's meant to be rude, necessarily. Pleasantries isn't really a global thing. That, and the sometimes limited amount of English to use may contribute to the short and directness. Tell ya what though, it doesn't bother me as much bots that sometimes spam up my comment section!
