Cyber Security- Critical Encryption

Cyber is about all things related to the internet, it covers all fields of IT, computers, networks, cloud storages, VPN, and VoIP. Cyber encryption is concerned with the security and integrity of all the data that is available on the internet. Encryption has always been around but the recent trends of cyber usage and resulting cyber vulnerability calls for its use and therefore we see a boom in platforms that are encrypted in order to make sure that your online data is secure.

Though the debate about the efficiency of this technology sprang up recently after few internationally renowned organizations secured their data with end-to-end encryption, making sure that there are no backdoors for any other organization to decode or break these codes in order to get through data provided on their platform. Those opposing the technology raised questions about the threats that this kind of advancement would produce for investigative and security departments of the state, by concealing information from radicals and terrorists among the society.

These organizations, anyhow, are concerned about their weaker user base image as an organization and about safeguarding their customers’ trust in these organizations, for providing backdoors means providing access to any outrageous person who many use the information nefariously. Most customers prefer encrypted products over unencrypted ones.

This would also mean protection of infrastructure on a national basis by protecting data from national airlines, hospitals, heritage centers, nuclear program centers etc. Thus cyber encryption from this perspective is not a threat to security but a protective measure on commercial and government level, by protecting the main domains of the state from a terrorists’ attempt of breaching into any of these networks.

However, the data that is already stored and reserved in devices and on networks is not very common and easy to encryption than the data, and it is mostly applied to data in transit. However, this is not a field as simple as it may seem and include many risks in encryption of huge databases:

. Vicious system administrators who can act as insiders and provide information to outside parties unless dedicated keys are incorporated.

. Multiple databases require access to same keys and can cause malware unless done in a systematic fashion.

. A key loss would mean data loss since it cannot be decrypted.

These risks could, however, be minimized by ensuring access to only authorized users, and by keeping a backup storage of keys for critical situations. Security certified encryption would lessen down the risk by keeping a proper report of activities performed on the database. Insider stacks can, however, be reduced by separating away encryption keys from encrypted data.
