A Season of Steemit: Believe It Or Not, Steemfest Was Not The Most Epic Experience Of My Time In This Revolution

in #steemit8 years ago

Good day, Steemians!

When all your desires are distilled, you will cast just two votes: to love more and be happy. -- Hafiz

I introduced myself on my birthday, which means I've been active here on Steemit for 3 months now and I'm feeling nostalgic! In that time, I have:

  • posted 86 articles (most of them about yoga)
  • rep 67
  • 363 followers (hi y'all!! 👋 )
  • learned a few things about cryptocurrency
  • fostered relationships
  • improved communications
  • given fucktons of thanks
  • taught yoga at Steemfest
  • earned enough STEEM to support a dozen people for 9 months

What a trip it's been--those are some righteous accomplishments! Steemfest was an absolute dream come true, and I want to thank @quinneaker, @roelandp, and @everlove again for supporting me in that. I thank the brilliant creators and devs of Steemit for giving us a place to play together--thank you @dantheman and @ned and @jamesc and everyone else seen and unseen! I'm so grateful to have been part of that fantastic, historic event--this is a truly powerful community we are building! May the inspiration we created sustain us until we reunite.

Steemfest was really huge and epically entertaining, but potentially even more exciting than Steemfest is the realization that I had today:

I have been so handsomely rewarded on Steemit that we can support the entire community of @gardenofeden for 9 months! This is because of both your generous upvotes and our almost unfathomably low cost of living--we thrive on less than $1 a day per person here in @quinneaker's visionary ecovillage. And that is just my account alone: our Eden Knights and @gardenofeden have collectively earned enough to pay our bills for 2.5 YEARS!!!

That's so amazing, but EVEN MORE AMAZING is that we don't need that money for ourselves. For example, in just a single day this past summer, @quinneaker and I covered our bills for 6 months by sharing knowledge and options for health and wellness. We were already overly abundant before we even heard of Steemit, which is why all of our resources are dedicated towards serving others!

For the value my account has generated on Steemit, @gardenofeden can feed 1,000 free meals

Thank you, thank you, thank you Steemit--this has been an extremely valuable and lucrative investment of my time and attention! Serving is my favorite ❤

Never one to rest on my laurels (and with the New Year right around the corner!), it's time to assess my goals. On my birthday, I laid out my year's plans, and I will update them here:

  • write books: My Steemit posts are a rich foundation for that.
  • establish an honorable tobacco organization to bring organic, homegrown to smokers: With @gardenofeden, we are bringing tobacco to more people than ever before; it is now offered on @steemrollin's Peerhub Marketplace as well as our website, so it's happening.
  • lay the foundation for a New Paradigm empire: Eden 2.0 expansion is underway!
  • grow STEEM: Going super well and I'm paying it forward! Thank you thank you thank you!
  • go to Egypt, Turkey, and/or Iceland: Not yet, but I did go to Amsterdam and am redirecting my course towards Ecuador in the upcoming months
  • party at the Playboy mansion: I'm no closer to this than I was when I set this goal years ago...I will be satisfied to party at Steem Castle instead...
  • have a beach house: see plans to go to Ecuador. And teach yoga retreats.
  • inspire ART!: always underway
  • continue to heal "incurable" diseases: Everybody needs iodine.
  • record a rap album with Chali 2na: I think @summon is onboard with getting him to headline Steemfest 2.
  • handstand: Getting closer!

This is going swimmingly!!

In the upcoming months on Steemit, I would like to continue to share yoga because I love it so and there's much, much more to know. We haven't gotten much into the yamas, niyamas, pranayama, or meditation techniques, so there's plenty more to bring. I also want to seriously commit to my health, improve my relationships (hands down one of my worst areas), share yoga at Steemfest 2, learn as much about cryptcurrency as I can and attend more conferences, and make my way to Ecuador to sip coconuts on the beach and offer yoga. That one should be an adventure, and I'm really good at adventures...

Thanks for the ride, y'all! This has been a real blast, and I love that we're changing the world in the digital and physical realms. I hope you'll join me as the saga continues...

💛 Sara!

One of the most powerful posting I have read on STEEMIT.COM yet! Wow, what an amazing result for you and us all on the long-run. This is so inspiring. Maybe, now, you could give a bit of a description on how your crew can live on about $1.00/day? It might very well come quite a handy piece of knowledge for the ones among us wanting to live as sustainably as possible. ;) Congratulations and namaste from Haida Gwaii! :)

Thank you @eric-boucher, that is an epic statement! I believe that the GOE has lived the revolution for many years, and now Steemit has come to bless us all with a digital complement. It's so great to see this incredible platform support, encourage, and inspire real, meaningful change in this world! It really is inspiring to be part of it.

How we live on $1/day is a great idea for a post! Basically every single aspect of life is different, and we use way less of everything! We cook in our outdoor kitchen over rocket stoves built from dirt that burn scrap wood--we don't need electricity for it. We don't have heating or air conditioning. We have composting toilets that don't use water. We don't shop at stores. We repurpose materials for building projects. We don't eat at restaurants or go to the movies or bars or clubs or sporting events or wherever else consumers go. I'm happy to genuinely consider my needs and either trade, barter, or go without something. It's interesting to see how new people adjust to life here, because for the first time ever they are faced with their potentially mindless, habitual consumption and have to consider their true values.

🙏

Thanks for your excellent and highly appreciated reply, it warms my heart to read this while providing for more glimmers of hope in our humanity's future. I guess you live in a fairly warm and dry moderate to hot climate then, from what I am assuming based on your reply? Namaste :)

We're in Arlington, Texas, and weather is fairly erratic here. Last year we got so much rain that we had to dig trenches throughout the garden to divert the floods from drowning our plants, but this year was relatively dry. Many summer days get over 100 degrees F, and many winter days drop below freezing. It's been cold this week. In a few days the weather is forecasted to drop a whole 50 degrees in one day! We learn to adapt.

As for heat in winter, we have an indoor wood burning stove to heat the main rooms of the house. We put rocks on the stove to heat up in the evening, then we wrap them in wool or towels and take them to bed. Hot rocks are one of my favorite treats of the year; it is absolute heaven to sleep outside in crispy cold air but to stay all warm and snuggly under the covers all night long!

Have you considered using a spiral of pipes either filled with water and propylene glycol, or oil and have it passover the heat of your stove? This way, the fluid moves with the pressure of the heat toward the cold, where the main spiral center is, and you have radiating heat rising to the surface heating the inside of your home. some people in yurts use a bed build over the actual stove which is casted in a mound of dirt hardened into some sort of concrete. I also have my own "hard-top" tent for the cold winters here, and greatly enjoy the cool night sleep. I simply LOVe fresh air! Thanks for your reply, stay warm, keep your smile, thrive on and namaste :)

Living on $1 a day? That's impressive!

Not only living--we are truly thriving! We want for nothing; our needs are met above and beyond our wildest dreams~*~

Wow. That's awesome.. Living less than $1 is the norm here in africa. But it will be extremely difficult to live even a middle class life and afford other basic amenities..

Joined Steemit 6months ago and Im super grateful too...

Yes that's a valuable point. <$1/day is normal in some parts of the world, but here in the US it's almost unheard of. I don't know anyone who does this by choice, or has any clue that it's a valid possibility for a fulfilling life.

I think I speak for many when I say I'm glad you're here, @infovore!

Boom, so much love in me for this post

Go Sara!!! It is so much fun to watch you soar and be a part of your magnificent life! I am grateful for the opportunities we have to play together--especially this juicy game of new paradigm living and intense upgrading of our management skills. I plan to be taking more adventures with you.

We make an excellent team; bring it on!!!

I do love what you are doing @gardenofeden it is really impressive.

Thank you @cyber-punk! @quinneaker, @everlove, and the rest of the Eden Knights inspire me to do my best every single day. It's really soul-expanding to witness such dedication.

UV and RS for you Sara, this post is a great one, you can survive for 122.56 days at the time I am writing this LOL!

I would like to see you go to Iceland and write all about it and take epic pictures and make Steemy awesome blog posts for us stuck. Elsewhere. Blah.

You are awesome, Steem On!

Thank you Barry!

In the name of MJ:

That is a powerful video, just the wording of the thing let alone the filming in all the worldly places. TY for sharing that, it is very nice

You're welcome!

Great post Sara !
Ive resteemed it too :)

Impressive and well done sara hope you can help others climb also with your SP, upvoted.

Yeah thanks @simonjay. All thanks to Quinn, the GOE, and Steemit for enabling me to help others just by sharing what I love to do! It's super cool how easily this vortex can operate in the best interest of all!!!

Inspiring and inspiration Sara. Upvoted and followed!

Thanks for your support @sgtechservices! May we all make this world the greatest one yet~*~

With more people like you in the world, we shall!

Honestly the things I do are in thanks for all the inspiration @quinneaker & the GOE provide me. If I was living alone, I would be caught up in the matrix. Quinn sets a stellar example for an accessible alternative lifestyle that is more beneficial, considerate, and honorable for everyone (and our planet!) than I ever thought possible, and now that I'm aware of it, I choose the better way. My community motivates me to stay dedicated to a higher good rather than my own self-consumption.

Wow, you truly are powered by Steem! :-D

A great journey and it shows the power of focus. I do like your yoga pose photos. I would love to be able to use them on my Go4YogaHealth blog - properly credited and with a link back to Steemit.

Hey Sara, I resteemed this and am following you now.

It is so awesome to see the synthesis of this online platform with on-the-ground impact. In fact, this was one of the ideas that drew me to Steemit and it is inspiring to see what you are doing.

As my family and I develop our land and push towards greater resilience and health in our community, I hope we can do the same! Cheers to you!

Sweet, thanks for your support @anarchrysalis! I'm so grateful to share the inspiration that constantly surrounds and uplifts our community - we're so much stronger when we go together! Blessings~
