There I was, enjoying my day and making a Steemit post, when I found with ABSOLUTE HORROR that there was no longer an option to edit raw HTML.
What gives, Steemit?
Do you not want my posts to look pretty?
Do you not want my images to be centered?
Do you want me to use Markdown like some kind of ANIMAL?!?!
I hope this is just temporary. But if it's permanent—if Steemit is no longer going to allow raw HTML editing, they really need to beef up the "Editor" interface.
Here are some suggestions:
- Text alignment buttons — to align text, left, right, center, or justify
- Image alignment buttons — to align images to the center AND allow the possibility of aligning images to the left or right of text
- Gallery-style image functions — to allow images to be organized side-by-side and to give better functions for sizing images
- Underline button — to allow text to be underlined
I want my posts to look pretty again. Help me Steemit. You're my only hope.

Are you using Google Chrome(book). I find the Editor doesn't appear when using this. Good ole markdown time sorry!
Its labeled markdown, but html works the same as it always has for me ..
What's changed ?
The HTML editor is still there for me. But in the upper right-hand corner of the editing box there used to be a link that said "Raw HTML." That isn't there anymore.
That's right. If you type anything into the main body of your post under "Submit A Story", the "Markdown" tab just disappears! Delete the text and it reappears!
I think that's always been the case. That's because once you've started typing it's like you've "committed" to one language, markdown or html. But that's not what I'm referring to. In the html editor there used to be an option to edit the actual code, or "raw html."
Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well, but I do totally understand what you mean. After you use "Editor" to compose a post, there used to be the small "Raw HTML" symbol at the upper right hand corner. Now that's gone.
So justifying text, images, adding lines, etc. cannot be done anymore which is a big problem for me. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think you can used "Editor" to do this.
Is there a possible workaround to this until an update is released that fixes this issue? Well, I hope it gets fixed, lol.
I bet a lot of this stuff can be done in markdown, but I'm not familiar with markdown at all.... So I guess I'll have to learn.
you saved my day man
Ask for what is really needed, not the return of 1995 posting technology. That just scares the masses away. This place desperately needs a simple current WYSIWYG editor like mainstream sites use.
Like voat.co's editor, you simply highlight your text and click a button to apply, and it deals with video links and pics too.
It's open source and up on github. https://github.com/voat/
A steemit.com dev that copied those features would become legendary...
I don't think having the option to edit the code will scare anyone away, especially when that option was always kind of "hidden" in the upper corner. But I certainly agree that a souped-up editor is in order. That way there would be no need to touch the code.
I really want to right justify my pictures at times. I cannot find a way to do so.
I tried html's "div align" but it didn't work. Any ideas?
i have been away from steemit few months .... when i back the editor box disappear ... i not even possibly have a pict on my post :(
i want to re-steem this post but that button gone as well ....
Possibly because this is a really old post. Some of the information on it is very out of date as well.
Hey man I know this is a really old post but have you found a practical way to get some html in there yet? It’s not letting me use the
<center>
tag as suggested by so many others. When you go you make a post, before you type anything, make sure you're in the HTML Editor, not markdown. Once you start typing you can't switch back and forth. There's a button to switch at the top right of the text box.
In the HTML Editor, you have the option to switch to editing the raw HTML code. This feature was temporarily removed, but it's back again. The button for "Raw HTML" is above the top right corner of the text box.
Steemit doesn't support all HTML coding, but you'll be free to do a lot more with your posts than what you can accomplish with markdown.
Thanks man. That was so weird last night there was no "raw html" button. I only had Editor and Markdown. Neither supported the basic stuff I was trying to do.
Weird. Maybe it's still glitchy. I wouldn't know since I mostly use markdown these days.
