3. Have a strong avatar
If there's anything that I see people overlooking the most in terms of their strategy here on Steemit, it's the Avatar.
Imagine: You're commenting all over Steemit, gaining tons of exposure, hundreds to thousands of people are seeing the quality content you are making, and when they look at your avatar, they see this...
Way to make an impression!
Don't be that guy.
Because an eye-catching avatar will really help people remember you. And when they remember your avatar from comment to comment, they'll start to get a feel for how you operate and the style that you bring to Steemit. It'll give them more opportunities to get to know you and eventually follow you.
Who is doing this right?
Some great examples of strong avatars are:
- @stellabelle
- @papa-pepper
- @ausbitbank
- @fulltimegeek
- @steevc
- and myself @shayne.
These avatars are iconic, colorful, attractive, and memorable.
I also drew three of the six ;)
Don't let your avatar be a missed opportunity!
How do you upload an avatar?
Under "Setting" you will see a field that says "PROFILE PICTURE URL". In that field you simply past the url to your avatar.
If you're wondering where you can host your picture, well... just make a Steemit post about how you're updating your avatar, drag and drop the image into that post so it's hosted on the Steemit blockchain, and then copy and paste the source url into the field for your profile picture.
Easy :D
And you'll probably make some money off of the post as well.

I dont think its the avatar in general, just that beard. Good post though. Very helpful for us newbs.
beard = powerful
I hear ya!
Great Info!!! I was trying to upload from instagram but something does not jive there and my avatar kept being a blank white space. Never thought to use a post...lol...Thanks!
Most social media sites try to prevent outside linking, so I'm not surprised that instagram would give you problems.
Thanks for the info, I took the picture from my introduction post and it works now
Right???
I'm pretty sure my face is memorable, haha! But you do have a point, and I like your art. Upvoted :D
No, your avatar works too. black and white are generally eye-catching
Oh, good to know! Thanks :p
Interesting, i was thinking on editing my profile picture in one of those color full editing apps... Still i think mine has worked well, as there are no many similar pictures and is fairly memorable...
My avatar makes a statement.
What statement?
"I'm constipated"?
That I am a FUCKING god king troll boss and constipated.
Right, so "constipated". Got it.
Well you definetly helped people with information of how to change the profile picture and therefore an upvote from me.
But i don't think that the avatar is that important there are many things before that.
Trust me, the avatar is important. Other things are as well, which is what this guide is about. But the avatar can do a lot for you.
Nice tip @shyne
Who made those avatars? and how much it cost?
Well, I made 3 of them. Commissions are currently closed, unfortunately.
Never mind, graphic designer will come to steemit :)
By the way you have unique avatar my friend
Nice post! I agree that a good and powerful avatar is really important (in all social media).
Right. It's another way to make a good impression and to secure your online brand :D
Yeah it's unbelievable how important the first impression is. Our brains work superfast :)
oh god thats absolutely a good idea, seriously, thanks for reminding !awesome reminder!
I immediately changed mine :D
lol
You got it!

Good Luck
New to Steemit, and haven't decided on a cool sounding username or avatar yet. But you make a good point that the avatar is a visual "branding" of yourself (which is why I probably won't use my actual photo - too boring, but we'll see). I actually uploaded an image via FTP to a website I host and linked it that way, but sounds like I can do it in my introductory post and embed the image...thanks for the help!
