I agree with you in general, however a further look might show that New Year's Day may be one's annual Natal Day, or depending where climatically you live, one's beginning of spring, or even one's beginning of autumn. My preferred New Year's Day is 22 October. Some say it is the celestial cycle's beginning, and some the Zodiac's spiritual third's beginning. Ancestors of an icebound northern realm might look to Hogmany, but peoples' birthdays are in today's Individualised world, more important it seems, or as I do, one may look at a celestial clock much easier today than a 'seasonal', when you are in ice and I am in hot humidity at Hogmany. 😇
