Ladies, Gentlemen, TEAM AUSTRALIA and all of STEEMIT WORLD, this is my two thousandth post and with it I will endevour to change the way you think of STEEMIT - forever!
(And perhaps make myself an acclaimed STEEMIT philosopher in the process.) ;)
The heading above has been taken from the 1776 book by Adam Smith, the man considered to be the 'father of modern economic theory'. I believe the themes outlined in his book, which explain the development and accumulation of 'the Wealth of Nations' are more relevant in this developing world of STEEMIT, than they are to the outside world - as thus far STEEMIT is untouched by the corruptible hands of Government.
The theme of this post however, is not about Adam Smith, or me , or TEAM AUSTRALIA or STEEM WARS... it is about YOU!
In this post I will assume that YOU, the reader, is looking to be financially successful here on STEEMIT - if your goal is otherwise - so be it.
... And as my 2000th post - it is going to be crude and succinct, with no pretty pictures, no fancy logos - however if you want to be successful here at STEEMIT you'd damn well better stop, and read and learn.
Followers
Are you are eagerly, yet aimlessly wondering around STEEMIT gathering as many followers as you can? Yes.
'YOU WILL FAIL!'
Without common cause or purpose your followers will be lucky to stumble upon you again! You will have no friends, no support network and you most certainly not gain decent $SBD for your posts.
Don't believe me... meet Tim Crowe @crowe
Tim celebrated his 1,500 follower today - when I jumped in after 30 minutes he had earned less the $0.50 for his celebration post - at the time of drafting this post 3 hours later it is at $2.10. 1,500 followers and he has earned a mere $2.10 in 3 hours??
I take you to another post of Tim's - a well written self-help verse on 'following your passion' - it was worth $0.46 cents after 24 hours! - with 1,500 followers??
https://steemit.com/life/@crowe/the-meaning-of-life-why-are-we-here
The same post in Team Australia would have earned him at least $20 (but more on this later).
I have asked Tim to join us in at Team Australia now and he has accepted - I assure you that hence forth Tim will be adequately rewarded for his time and labour.
Co-operation
Do you believe that co-operation with others to enhance your wealth is immoral? Yes.
'YOU WILL FAIL!'
Your association with co-operations, unions, corporations, networks are imperative if you want to succeed in STEEMIT. And they are not immoral - what they produce might be... but they themselves are not. What triggered me into this post was a conversation with @calamus056
https://steemit.com/steemit/@calamus056/should-you-invest-in-promoting-your-content-on-steemit
In this post by @calamus056, Cal clearly details the workings behind the PROMOTE feature on STEEMIT posts. It was a very information post - though I am not sure I agree with the investment rationale. When I looked in on the post at in the first hour it was < $1 - it is now sitting at $4.25 - and yet @calamus spend $138.74 to promote it.
One must be careful not to over capitalise on one's investment - but this is not the point I seek to make. I was quite impressed by Cal's initiative and writing style that I asked him if he would like to join us at TEAM AUSTRALIA. His response was:
... I really hate vote sharing groups, sorry. If the content is good, people will resteem and share automatically.
So firstly, we already know that people won't resteem and share automatically from both Tim & Cal's posts.
Secondly and more importantly - if you do not unite and you continue to wonder aimlessly, but maintain some deluded notion that you are morally superior - 'YOU WILL FAIL'.
Community is the future of STEEMIT
As in human evolution, the individual came first, then the family, then the community, getting stronger with each step.
At the moment TEAM AUSTRALIA is a family - and we are already strong! Some of our photographers are earning over $50 a photo - for the real high quality shots. Our chefs are earning $30-$50 for their recipes, our graphic designers are earning $50-$100 for designs, our historians are earning in excess of $30 for their stories. Our mothers are earning in excess of $20 for sharing their tales of motherhood.
Why?
It is because:
We are family! It is that simple - we look after our own first.
We are proud of our family and we strive to do the best quality of work in the name of our family.
We have common purpose, common interest, a common sense of value. We have a vision and we have a mission!
If you have no family and you do not accept that communities within STEEMIT are the future...
'YOU WILL FAIL!'
But it is worse than this - without families and communities within STEEMIT...
'STEEMIT WILL FAIL' - for the wealth will be accumulated and be held by too few, success for newcomers will become too difficult and STEEMIT will die.
Families and Communities in STEEMIT will encourage more families and communities. AGAIN this is the future of STEEMIT and you must embrace it.
Choose your community carefully
Ask yourself - does your community empower you to succeed in accordance with your spirit, talents and abilities?
If you feel you are a serf in a feudal oligarchy, you probably are!
Whales
Do you believe that whales won't like you if you are part of a community? Yes.
'YOU WILL FAIL.'
Generally speaking Whales want two things:
- Curation revenue.
- The long term growth and stability of STEEMIT.
Communities within STEEMIT give Whales certainty that their curation dollars are being well spent as community posts earn more; and, growing communities will ensure that STEEMIT grows over the long term.
What should you do next?
TEAM AUSTRALIA is a family built out of the mateship that us Australian's seem to naturally share - built upon the pride in our country.
What makes you proud and what are you passionate about - and what brings out the camaraderie in your relationships?
Find these things, forge your STEEMIT FAMILY and together go build the wealth of your Steemit community!
In conclusion
In 1776, what did Adam Smith credit as being the the most important institution within a Capitalist Economy?
If you said "Family" you now get it - just as Adam Smith did. He believed that without family, wealth would flow all over society in total chaos - seem familiar?
End.
I am... SirKnight!
dear sirknight, you have written a very good post and i'm happy about the fact, that @hgmsilvergold has resteemed it, so i could read it. I have to say, you nailed it (not only in your post, also in your comments). i would like to go deeper into the topic, but sadly my english is not good enough for that. thank you very much for sharing and greetings from a member of #steemsilvergold.
upvoted and of course: followed ;-)
Thanks pawos... following you back mate.
I totally with all your points and believe that working in groups would be much more beneficial on steemit. How can we join team Australia?
Where are you from @hms818?
Mate, your posts just keep getting better and I totally agree with all of your points. I came across someone the other day with 1400+ followers who was earning piss all. The reason, they'd followed over 4000 people, weren't in any support and their posts were shit!
Your guidance has helped me untold since we bumped into each other all those weeks ago. If people don't listen to your advice in this post they deserve what they get.
I suspect it will be nothing.
Keep it up @sirknight you're a legend.
@tremendospercy
Yep - in short - it is not about the number of friends you have it is about the quality of the friends you keep - and you SirTP are right up there!
Ditto my man!
Thanks for sharing. This is one thing ive noticed as well. As I am new and learning how to use my "steemian legs" I have come to see that followers doesn't equal rewards. Within a couple of days of joining steemwars my fullfillment of posting in steemit is already up. Thanks for sharing!
Tell me more of how Steem Wars has helped you friend.
Great stuff, I'm really impressed with the work you're putting in for team australia! You're really building a sense of community,
Thanks SG glad you like what we are doing. What's happening in Wollongong today - nice, bright and sunny here in Sydney. SK.
Same here for Wollongong! I'm not looking forward to the sun disappearing behind the escarpment in half an hour.
Ah yes - it twill be twilly. Did I mention I had a holiday down your way last Christmas - stayed on the beach in North Wollongong - had a day at Jamberoo - I have three kids 10 and under - boy do we love that place!
Haha that's great! I haven't been to Jamberoo in ages, I'll have to go next summer and check out the new rides.
You can keep saying the same thing over and over to some people and they still keep doing what they are doing the way they are doing it.
I think we will get to the point Chris that it will be communities fighting one another to welcome the new comers - but this might be 12 months away. Thanks for dropping in. SK.
amen...............
For sure urs.
i really enjoy how you write this articles....you are born for writing....LOL....
cheers mate
Takes me hours though urs - don't forget that. When you put 3 hours into something it is amazing what you can achieve. SK.
...it would take me weeks....lol....im fully aware of that SK.....and i really appreciate what you do for us here.....
my first language is not english,so it takes me even more time to write some stuff up.....try not to stuff it up....LOL...
Of course, the family is stronger than the loner. In Italian, the family is a mafia. :)
Exactly dlina! Thank you for showing us the obvious - TA however is a good mafia though. SK.
Some words of wisdom in here @sirknight! Congrats on 2000 posts.
Thanks Choowie. hehehe. Got any more intros for us? SK.
I've had a good response to my recruiting efforts so I will try and do another one today or tomorrow (time permitting). Can you add these three in from Saturday's intros please. https://steemit.com/teamaustralia/@choogirl/team-australia-new-recruits-update-24-06-17
Thanks mate!
I thought you said it was going to be crude. Perhaps I have a variant definition of crude (wouldn't be the first time I was using a variant definition... XD).
It was a good read. And made interesting feelings (I'm very much used to failing consistently and this piece more or less suggested that the way I prefer to operate is not a bad one).
Congratulations on hitting the second millenium in posts XD
Hi ryivhnn - by crude I kind of meant I would be singling out a couple of people which I did - was worried it might come across harsh - but I managed to keep the tone mild I think. Thanks for popping by. SK.
Ahh. I didn't think it came across harsh, but I've also been roasted by art critics XD
Once again, well said. I can personally vouch that @teamaustralia has done a great job of taking me under their wing, and helping me to grow on Steemit in so many ways. Not to mention the excitement of learning about the life and culture of a country halfway around the world, from those who are actually living it!
Some of the other social media platforms have ironically de-humanized their interactions, and basically destroyed community. Sometimes it is a paradigm shift for new Steemians the begin to understand once again what community really means.
Swenger - have seen you riding from one end of US to the other rallying your troops - you are an inspiring leader. See you in the trenches mate. SK.
Congratulation @sirknight of your 2000nd post...
I agree all the points that you have tackled.
Everything begins at number 1 but even the Bible said, "go to the world and multiply" so with male and female they live as a family. Time push thru, the number increased so they became a community until we filled the earth.
The Creator demand to multiply because He knew that through multiplication we become stronger and stronger and that's what our teamaustralia wants... the way to success... Again, Congratulation @sirknight.
Thank you for this #2000 post of yours...
I upvoted and resteem.
Glad you liked the post vhinz and thanks for your biblical support. I think quiet highly of the big fella and I reckon he would approve of what we are doing at TA. SK.
In your post sir @sirknight I found something within you...and that something is what I like, But I am not absolutely sure if this something I found is what really is...but there is one thing I'm pretty sure...you are a good person, the Bible said, "through the fullness of the heart, the mouth will speak".
I am a family man vhinz. I work hard for my family. I work hard for my clients. I work hard for my friends. And in doing so I seem to find success. I think if the big fella was here he would be pretty happy with me. But enough on me - tell me more about vhinz88?
Wow! @sirknight Perhaps you are a good companion...a good influence.
I am an ex-seminarian, 28 years old.
I have two kids...
I work as job order it means I don't have a permanent job. I thanks that existence of steemit, it helps my needs even though I've just started.
Most of my friends are older than me, their age are 40's and above because I believe I will learn something helpful in my life through their knowledge of experience. I love spending time with them so that I can give advice too to age level friends...
I really appreciate good things, ideas, works etc. But I also love to teach who does wrong.
I believe we are all in one family...
Great post! Congratulations on 2000 posts! Well done!
Thank MOM! Glad you liked. Yes saw I was coming up on that 2000 number and thought yep - got to make something of it. SK.
Great post. Thanks for all your efforts to bring together the Aussies. You're doing a great job at improving the Steemit experience for many.
Thanks Jason. Yes besides many of the benefits outlined here TA simply makes the whole experience more fun and personable. SK.
Very true!
Well said @sirknight. I hadn't tried the promotion feature until a few days ago on one of my posts that I spent quite a long time working on. However, spending 1 SBD to promote it didn't have any visible effect. It has a potential payout that is lower than others I haven't spent money promoting. I think having a lot of followers doesn't necessarily help either as you have mentioned. 1000 minnow followers won't do as much as a a big whale follower who upvotes your posts at 100% or even 50%. Community is key. Thank you for all your hard work for TeamAustralia
Thanks snooway - yes I would like to try out the Randomwhale one time - maybe I can crack the jackpot 100%. SK.
Great post again SK. Thankyou for your services to the cause! Honoured to be a part of it!
Your posts are always wicked! @sirknight
Congrats on 2000 posts mate! Keep em coming :)
Hey thanks Mike. I was telling the Mum-in-law about your pineapple post on Sunday too. She was very impressed. Think she is going to give them a run in pots as you suggested. SK.
Mate, thats awesome! Look at steemit, giving life to baby pineapples everywhere :)
Never thought of it that way - but yes you are right Steemit is doing this. And as pineapples are good for the voices of singers - Steemit is effectively creating world 'harmony.' ; ) SK.
Does anybody knows anyone who had become milonare from steemit :p
How the bloody hell did I miss this?!!?!
Well said and I couldn't agree more!
Actually I've been wanting to share my Steemit experience and observations in my 2 weeks here.
Yup. 2 short weeks. I wasted week one by not joining Team Australia straight away. I know first hand how huge #teamaustralia is getting. You'd be foolish to go at it alone especially when you don't have to.
I am. You are. We are Australian. ❤
And cos we're aussies we give other a hand too. Cos we're awesome.
Im always cautious when people use the word community, although it is the right word, it is co-opted by a collectivist thinking (putting the group before the individual), which removes the sovereignty of our individuals creating the feeling of serfdom (as you suggested). I have come across many talented individuals since joining and hope to contribute as good as them. I have even seen some of your comments, congratulating those individuals who are doing well. This is how I knew it is the right group for me. There is nothing wrong with a group of individuals co-operating, this to me is the best part of western culture that we are unfortunately losing outside of steemit. Thanks for creating this community. I can't see it failing.
Great post, it really gave me for for thought, I definitely have that wandering around aimlessly feeling of wandering about in Steemit.
I've resteemed your post, but I might also reference it when I try and start my own community, if that is okay?
i agree with you that working in team will help gain momentum in steem. can i join other countries teams? i donot know if there is any team from my country
What country are you from?
Hey Sirknight - Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I missed your post initially.
Very interesting! And yes, I'm interested in collaborating.
What's the next step?
