Username Remorse - I Wish I Could Change My Username Just Once

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Sixex Travels which is my new display name.Hello, I'm the user known as @sixexgames. Just by looking reading my username what would you assume I write about? Perhaps I write about tabletop or video games? It's true I like games but if you look at my feed, the vast majority of my posts are about travel. So I'd like to re-introduce myself as

The Importance of Usernames

Usernames are a very visible and many successful accounts have niche-related or memorable usernames. Obviously there are other more important factors but I feel a good username is still very important for marketing yourself. If I owned a travel company I wouldn't call my company "Chairs Inc."... for obvious reasons. So I feel like I would get more followers interested in travel if my username were at all travel related, or at least something neutral than my name. Because as it currently stands, my username implies I write maily about another niche.

Regrets

I wish I had the opportunity to change my username to something such as "Sixex Travels". (Honestly I have a much better one and only used the "Sixex" part in my display name because it incorporates my username.) I joined this website back in February before I really even understood what Steemit was. I just chose Sixex Games at that time because it's the "company" that I've published an android app under. I didn't write much until a couple months ago when I realized I really enjoyed blogging about my travel experiences. I tried to create a second account and switch to using it, but it said that an account already registered using the phone number. I registered for Steemit while I was living in Spain so I used my Spanish number... so I have no idea why my new American number wouldn't work.

Ultimately there's not much I can do about it now, so I'll just keep creating content that I enjoy writing. And hopefully other people will discover my work and enjoy it as well :) So for now I'll just keep working with what I have.

So what do you think? Are usernames important? Or am I placing too much value on them?

I get that life. When I signed up I was just stoked I could get my first name since it is usually gone on other platforms but didn't think much about it either. Now I wish I had something more catchy or fun... maybe its just me though lol.

Yeah I have no idea what you post about based on that (apparently a lot of photography). It's not a bad username, but yes I think a catchier username or a play on photography terms would definitely help your cause.

I didn't even spell my freakin name right.. should be Ben McCulley :-/ oh well

Yeah it's like the beginning of the internet where any web domain you wanted was still available.
