Why I Feel Steem Could Topple Other Social Networks But Probably Won't... YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc...

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Not to bother... Once long ago, having your voice censored was commonplace... YouTube paying more for pandering to herd thought and Facebook keeping people cosy in their little bubble of information. It disharmonizes us and propagates attention based on paid advertising and sees us as profit margins instead of loyal users.

People are loosing engagement on older social networks, at the same time as new users (the new generation) are taking their spot, typically in the mobile area. It's like a flat blip of targeted advertising that seems to hit the same amount of active users, as well as giving them the option of avoiding ads by payment or know-how... Now at the same time the amount of backing into the behemoths, that are these large companies. They have created a large amount of control over most regions.

Being subjected to most corporate marketing, targets specific regions of the brain that adhere to the herd mentality. I like being able to make my own decisions based on research I've conducted, not what the next big thing is... That statement isn't cliche either, most end up actually going out and pursueing most brands they were shown. Like the clip below...

It's exactly like the movie Idiocracy... The people have become so dependant upon large media outlets for a majority of their life, and at some point most alternative outlets eventually become profit driven. If you've seen ads on any social network, than some company/individual paid for that spot... Now to the point.

Steemit helps user, both just starting with media creation online and large users with loads of active users alike. You can use it to get views on content that's elsewhere to get traffic. You can create anything and put it here and start a more localized community established on growth. It generates a discussion as well as providing opportunity instead of advertising which is key to the puzzle that is targeted advertising on social media. We are the spam filters here, whereas facebook sees us as algorithms. Even users who have little to no experience have a real shot at getting a piece of content seen, on a global scale. It's more reserved in the aspect of keeping an open discussion, earning rewards, and no horrible ads!!!

I enjoy the fact it's not just one specific region either, it separates borders and encourages a sense of a true world community. It's tied to a blockchain so every user has a shot to climb as far as they can, or just pack up and leave.

I have truly enjoyed the users I've seen on here as well. The blogs contain a lot more depth because it has the personal touch added as well. The thing about most media sources of information is there's this overwhelming vibe of: this is our version of reality we've chosen for you. It's alright as long as you have a healthy dose of skepticism at your side, but alas, the majoriy seldom do. It pains me but makes me humbled to reach out on this platform.

None of the other major social networks that exist offer the oportunity to get paid, up front, for their voice. It truly is the future and at its current rise, it's sure to explode, if it's not currently! The option to promote is there, but it only puts it on a page... More of a way to market to new users, just my 2 cents...

The userbase and price continuesto climb, and the idea itself is picking up Steem!

Thanks for this blog post. I've tried to win some blogging friends over from Facebook to Steemit...but this whole "you can make money on here" thing makes them a bit suspicious about this site :) I hope they will change their minds soon and start blogging here as well.

Very nice, It answered a few questions I had, and gave great information.

Great post! Thanks for sharing :)

Or the big boys will just gobble it up.

Not so, the movement itself has already reached this point. Crypto as a whole as well. It's still actually in beta, but when it leaves that stage it'll be even better!

I agree with your points, thanks for sharing. Upvoted and followed.
