RE: Community Engagement being suppressed by the @asshole account on here w. Flagging everything. My proposed democratic solution - Simple. A Vote.

in #steemit8 years ago

Well, for starters, I believe all @asshole is would be a bully. There could be a couple reasons for this type of behavior.

  • First: This person wants to drive down price, could be to buy in low knowing Steem will succeed, no way to confirm this being they could hold at an exchange or offline wallet.
  • They have a grudge against one of the whales like @dan, or @ned etc and want to drive the price way down to hurt the whales cashing out, kind of like revenge.
  • Could just be working to drive people away from this system to watch it fail, which there could be reasons why others would want to see this platform not succeed, such as other platforms still in Alpha testing, or beta testing, and are trying to hurt the competition before they go live!

As to your point:

network wide/community vote system must be built

This could be easily gamed as well, being enough account to vote someone out. Kind of like in school when the teacher would say they are grading on the curve, this means one or two students would get A, and inevitably one or two students must receive an F on a true curve, so to vote out based on community decision would not work. There are some who would vote to keep the @asshole around, because kicking one user out could be worse things to come!

Solutions are hard to find

  • If I limit the amount the account is allowed to down vote, lets say 5 per day, this user could set up 10k account to do what he is already doing with one. It is clear this user has capitol invested in making the system fail.
  • Maybe make the ability to down vote coincide with the account being required to make a post or a comment. But then A spam bot could do that, but there would be a way to leverage the voting based on reputation, this account would have 0 or less rep so little or no vote, no matter the amount of SteemPower.
  • Like you said the down vote or flag must come with a comment, but that helps the above statement, yet still I could simply create several account to keep this going with high SteemPower.
  • Method as members of a community we could have an account funded with 2x the power of this account, and use it to upvote as a counter weight to the down votes, but that would take community funding or a whale with a generous heart, being the @asshole account in theory could end with unlimited SteemPower, this could also be a bad idea, but could be effective if set up the right way.

Great reply, very fulsome response. You know more about this IT stuff as we know so it is nice to hear your ideas.

I am not sure if it is related to or by @pfunk but I notice recently (very recently) -- an account called @pfunk10 -- seems to be UV all kinds of posts and comments to counter the @asshole acc't and someone mentioned to me last nite, yet another bot on here now, just created, doing the same thing as this @asshole acct.

@seraph seems to be doing also what the @pfunk10 acct is doing.

So I think we owe those types of accounts and people a debt of thanks.

Thank You.

@anyx is running a bot which is countering @asshole downvotes with @seraph and @pfunk10 upvotes.

Thank you for the help in countering the @asshole. I hope these small steps you're doing will help keep others from trying this kind of meaningless attack.

Someone here just updated the who and what of that LOL, I think it is great, so TY again to @anyx

My latest batch of spicy stew/soupy stuff turned out awesome again!!!!

I am gonna post about it some day lol, I took pics. I toned it down from last month's batch which if you recall was wicked hot even for me LOL.

my spicy update: I'm eating the habanero sauce from my friend's family like salsa now. I should've got more :)

OM NON NOM.

I shall never tire of your spicy updates as you know. We really should start a club or community or something.

or a support group hahaha!

Thanks for the Scoville update my man!

Yes there are at least two bots working to counter the @asshole. I just wonder if there is a better way, just as you can see so far I'm not sure if there could be a way around it!

More bots for more of the acct's created for nefarious purposes as others have pointed out. Sigh.
