That sounds intriguing, but I'm not sure exactly how it would work. Give me a real-world scenario where one would use this debit card in our STEEM ecosystem to help me understand. Maybe I could get folks interested in it.

No problem. Btw...years ago I had xml gold card - xml is big online exchange for bigger cryptocurrencies and online banks (like neteller, paypal, ....). And I could deposit or withdraw directly to that exchange. Extremely easy. So real world scenario would be, that debit card is linked to our blocktrades market. In left field "send" you enter the number, how many steem or std would you like to sell. And on the right side, you would choose something like "Steem card" or "Steem debit card". So everyone who would like to sell steem or std and use it in real life, can do that in few clicks. But those debit cards have a price, usually around $15. Not expensive, but they are worth. And steem, or better said blocktrades could profit something like 0.5% for every transaction. Lot of cryptos have their own cards lately...
There is this. https://uquid.com/uquid-card
you can also use this https://bitpay.com/card/ by transferring to Bitcoin first
But I understand where you are coming from that it should be offered through Blocktrades.
There is a lot of other services like that too. But yes, there is no such service built-in the steemit blockchain. People are sometimes asking me "how to", and all usage of different services is making their head hurt. This would attract more people to steemit too. More exchanges for steem and more "fast and friendly" system for deposits and withdrawals.
