You're not doing too poorly. Doesn't 56 make you a dolphin? That's pretty impressive from a minnow's perspective.
Keep persevering, and putting out good work. Your reward will surface, even if it doesn't come from Steemit. IOW, do your best, let God do the rest.
Pay no attention to how others 'play the game'. Everything has a price tag.
Btw, when you become a whale, remember your current vexations, and dedicate an allotted amount of energy AND up votes to the minnows :+).

reputation doesnt make you a dolphin or whale. Its based on steem power...I think over 5000 steem power is dolphin and over a couple hundred thousand or 500k is whale..something like that

At the end of the day, what's for you will show up. That's what I believe. One has two choices....quit or keep aiming for a successful end. Doesn't sound like much of an option; but, that's about it.
Oh, by the way, keep spreading the knowledge; for that is where the minnows will gain significant power. And, be assured; there are some whales in the community looking out, and speaking out on our behalf.
