For the STEEM Newbie: More Proof Commenting Works!

in #steemit7 years ago

If you follow my guides and advice then you know I'm always saying two things:

  • Newbies Make the Bulk of Their Money From Commenting, Not Posting!
  • Commenting is Vital in Steemit.

Having said that, you also know that my average is 30 comments on normal days, 20 comments on weak days and 50 comments in good day.

Those who know me from the start know that in my first week on Steemit I was commenting 100 times per day, and commenting was almost all that I would do.

Now, today, I've seen even more evidence I'm thinking it right. A user named @taskmaster4450 just published a post:

I Made 230 In 7 Days Just From Posting Comments On STEEM. You Can Too

In this post, he explains what I already told you, and what countless users (far from me and task being the only ones) know:

  • Commenting isn't only vital! It's Profitable!

Not only that, but comments are VITAL for the BLOCKCHAIN as well, not only tu us.

Throughout this post, this is what we'll be approaching.

Taskmaster's Experience: He Made $230 in 7 Days

@taskmaster4450 starts his post by giving the vast array of excuses newbie Steemians usually give when they fail to get rewarded accorded to their inflated expectations.

He said it like this:

"I can't make any money here."
"The system is rigged."
"The Whales only circle vote."
"Nobody reads my stuff so I can't make any money."

He then explains why that is far from the truth and goes over how he earned over 200 bucks in a week just by commenting.

Finally, he stated (and I agree) that anyone can make 25 SP per week easilly - Heck I even think he was being too conservative as that is easy to do in a couple of days most of the times (if you play your cards right or get lucky).

Im having a rough week, really rough... but my average is still at 19 comments per day, which isn't good but it's ok.

There were weeks in which I made $300+ from commenting, and others like this week in which I'll get around $50.

But more on that on this next paragraph.

My View On Commenting: A Coin Collector.

Before we start, you know that this week is being my bad commenting week, but even so, look at this number:

Meet my low commenting average of $0.28 USD. Trust me, this is a low number as it usually sits higher, but that even helps me make my case.

How would you feel if you had the power to summon a 20 cents coin whenever you wanted?

That's exactly what we have here... the more you comment, the more you earn, and this is why I call commenting the ultimate coin collector.

Heck, it gives you the power to create money out of thin air. You just need to go to an article you like and leave your thoughts on it.

It's that easy.

Not only that, I get back to saying that it is much easier to earn by commenting than by posting when you're new and still don't have a following.

If you want to get on top of your commenting game, read my guide on it (don't bother voting on it, it's past payout)

Please Comment: Do It For Us, the Blockchain and You!

We already went over how profitable commenting can be, but why should you do it more?

Perhaps you feel like it just isn't worth the hassle, and that the ability to summon free SP isn't worth it for you.

Perhaps you got to the point where you bank hard on whatever it is you're posting, or you simply sell your votes and couldn't care less about content and you just need the money.

Well...

...there are more reasons on why commenting is vital.

First of all, it is great for every content producer out there. Let's face it, in Steemit we are mostly all content producers.

We hate having a post with no comments, we hate it that we can't get discussions started, we hate to feel ignored.

By commenting, you're contributing more than with your comment, you're contributing with dynamism and activity... you're making the Blockchain a place with LIFE!

On the other hand, the community would die with no comments, and the more comments the more life you breath into the platform, and the more life is has the more growth it will have as well.

Comments are also content pieces that get crawled by google, they incentivize content production, they build networks and more.

And this is all vital for the Steem Ecosystem. If you want STEEM prices to rise and Steem to succeed:

COMMENT!

If you want people to build relationships with you...

COMMENT!

If you want to help build a better community...

COMMENT.

Finally, if you want to earn over 200 bucks in under a week and you're a week old:

COMMENT!

never estimated revenue per comment. it could be interesting.

thanks @spiritualmax

Yeah, seeing it as a "coin summoner" really motivates you to comment harder hehe.

It's all about creating a conversation and dialogue. I've found that to be true as well. Some good advice you offer here.

Commenting and following the comment threads on subjects you're interested in is a very productive way to improve your channel Feed as well. Birds of a feather.

Thanks man, and thank you for the effort you placed on curating my post's comments.
Here's a bigger upvote for your troubles :D

Thanks for confirming this, I thought this to myself that following threads was productive and helps to hear other people also do this, thanks!

Hey @spiritualmax,

Thanks for this commenting post. It's now the third post on commenting that I've commented on in two days. lol

Thanks also for breaking down the amount of comments to aim for so clearly. The method. This morning I figured I'd go for 20/day. Didn't make it but your post and later comments confirm that would be an mid-range place to start, so I'll keep at it until it's become a habit.

This is my ninth day and before the end of my first, I realized that spending my time commenting on posts I liked was the best use of my time as a Steemit newb.

No one knew me and I didn't see the point of killing myself to push a lot of articles/audios/videos etc when hardly anyone would see them.

Commenting last week helped me get a better feel for the authors behind the posts too. And the peeps who follow them. It's amazing how you can just pick up a vibe about the 'environment' of a blog just by dropping in, reading post and comments then sharing what you have to say.

Thanks for pointing to that $200+ newbie commenting post. I'm hopping over there but wanted to say 'Thanks' here first.

Upvoted, resteemed and will not FB/tweet...

Remain Blessed as always, @spiritualmax!

When you comment meaningful comments like that, good things can happen!
Like this upvote for example :D
Cheers

Ughh, I totally feel you when you say you don't comment enough. Haven't been checking Steemit much in last couple of days but I remember that during the 1st week on Steemit I earned something like 5$ from a comment!

KARL - 5$ FROM A COMMENT!!!! DFAQ!? That just blew my mind

Now as I have more free time on my hands, definetely gonna contribute more to the community.

thanks for reminding fist (1).png

No problem brozini

Thanks for this post. I'm new here and still trying to wrap my head around it all. I did notice that it really isn't that easy to get people to read your posts. It seems like commenting is the way to go when first starting out until I can build an audience. Maybe commenting will help build that audience, too?

yes if u are posting something specifically follow fellow users on the subject.
one and comment on their posts its a win win

Thanks for jumping in :)

@norwegianbikeman is right, comment of topics related to what you're blogging about for added results :)

no problemo....and think a Ned to slow down my "jump in" a bit.

I try to comment as much as I can but my average is still so low!
Somehow I spend hours doing it and still only do 10 or so a day... It's whack.
I will keep trying though!
Thanks for the reminder :)
Xoxo, @amymya

You know what, I think I've commented a lot more than 18 as well... maybe there's something wrong with Steem Supply...

In the Portuguese language community I have been working this stimulus to the comments, with donations, and with the help of curators @brazilians who is now rewarding for good comments. It is very good these posts coming from users of greater reputation. Thank you.

E estamos caminhando. Obrigado pela resposta, e ainda em português. Grande abraço.

I have been commenting on posts here since day one (about a month), but after reading this post and the linked one you provided, I am for sure going to crank up my commenting activities! I do believe in contributing positively to the community, so maybe by doing this I can make up for my terrible lack of quality content creation. Thanks for all you do here @spiritualmax , noobs like me do greatly appreciate it!

I'm glad you liked it Scott!
Also a pleasure to welcome you to the Crypto Empire.
Cheers

Well, my comments usually stay in the low 0.02 area, if even.
But yeah, I am not part of any community.
And no marketing expert, as those now take over this blogging platform.
Mainstream time is beginning:)

Im sorry for being a Marketing expert :P
However, I'm far away from taking this platform. Still a lot of room for improvement.

I would just add that you shouldn't just leave any old comment. The more thoughtful and relate-able the comment is the more upvotes you get and therefor the more value it brings you.

so I would say its about quality over quantity. For example I had one comment worth over $2 and 10 worth $0. The one comment added more value to the platform and therefor me.

Indeed.
That's something I also cover in the commenting guide I posted but thank you for pointing it out here for all to see!
Cheers

So here's my comment, I mentioned this in @taskmaster4450's post as well. Commenting gave me the life support when I was starting off on Steem.

Something which I did not share in @taskmaster4450's post:
I actually had a broken right arm when I started here. So it was impossible for me to research and write long articles. That's when I stumbled upon this goldmine. Had it not been for comments there was a good chance I would be liking meme's on FB now :)

Commenting is easier than writing your own article because the premise is already set by the author and other commenters.

However, no one should take this lightly and post BS as comments. That takes you nowhere. Write something which has meaning not only to you but also to the reader's of your comment. Add to the discussion, do not spam it.

Indeed... man writing comments with a broken arm must have been a drag.
Is it usable already?

It's much better now. At least I can type with it with periodic resting

This was such a good post, I'm gonna show it to all my friends on Steemit. I had already read your Guides on commenting before, but I was taking it easy, commenting but not making a big deal out of it. On my best days, I would make 10 comments a day. Didn't know that commenting had SO MANY benefits.

On the other hand, what a did try very hard was to always comment on my friend's posts, because, as you said, being ignored feels really bad, and if I didn't comment their post, I would let them feel bad, and they would leave Steemit. So I try to comment on their posts to make them feel motivated too :)

Now I'm gonna make 80 comments a day jajajajaja ok maybe I'm exaggerating but 20-30 comments a day is a good goal :3
Btw, I have a question. Do you upvote every post you comment on? Because I feel like commenting without upvoting is a bit disrespectful but even when I make only 10 comments a day, upvoting 10 posts a day + posts on my feed that I liked did hurt my voting power o.o

Yes, you're right it drains your power fast....
When I was a newbie I would comment 100 times per day and only vote on 10 of them
However, once you get more than 500 SP you can choose to only spend 1% of the power on each vote, so you can vote 1000 times.

Cheers!

Wow! ANOTHER clear and very precise formula even a non-math genius like me can work with. One of my saddest heart feelings whilst commenting is that my upvote value is usually all of $0.00 so I'll be happy when it builds more. Still, 'heart value' as I coined yesterday, is priceless. ;)

Thanks for asking, @wildermanjnm!

I agree.
A vote is a vote no matter the amount. Bigger votes make more impact, but any vote helps and is greatly appreciated. Cheers

Commenting on posts has been a challenge for me i must confess. I do like what you said about commenting on your friend's posts. It is a good way to start and get comfortable with. I have been reading about benefits and rewards you get from commenting. I never knew about this when i started back in November. I will be looking out for posts like this to start commenting everyday . Let me try and see what happens. May be i might be lucky and get good rewards.

When I was new in steemit I did a lot of commenting and I believe most of my followrrs are there because I happen to reacg out to them. It felt really good to connect with others especially how easy it is.

Time went by and I started to earn a few dollars with my post. I noticed @ginabot talling ma a lot of my followers u following. Is it my post quality? Is it because I said something? I guess maybe if my posts werent that great but my follower knows what I have to offer soon, they would most probably stick around.

This made me realize that i needed to diversify my actions in steemit. I need to allot time to do some trades, upvote and comment on posts, make artciles and engage in communities. Its a lot to do but I hope it will work out as it did with you.

I am following you for more posts like this

Yes, Steem definitely needs TIME on your end.
Time is vital for those with no money to invest... you either invest money to get your Steem Power, or time and work.

I'm also on the time and work part.
Cheers

Great reminder!!

Commenting is vital for this community because without comments the posts would end up empty and without interaction!

And of course, there is the good and accumulative upvotes we can receive if we make good and proper comments, but the true value is probably the interaction we have commenting posts we like.

As a social media we need to have interaction here, otherwise this place wouldn't have a reason to exists. Commenting and sharing information with the community is what makes this places what it is!

Cheers!

Exactly, commenting is good not only for those involved but for the ecosystem as a whole.
Glad you see its importance as well.
Keep up the good work Ded!
Cheers

This is such an excellent post! Thanks to @inquiringtimes for bringing it to my notice. He's a big supporter of commenting and wrote one of the first comprehensive guides on it as well. I consider myself one of the vocal advocates of commenting as well. It is such a powerful thing for people and the blockchain.

After reading the $230 per week post, I had a look at my comments on others' posts to have an overview of how it was going. I found out that even though I can manage just a few comments per day on others' posts, they get voted regularly and if I calculate ny average, it would be some cents (*where did you get the $0.28 per comment figure though?).

Just the day before yesterday, I covered how not to comment to help people avoid getting flagged. But the true relevance to your post is born by a guide which mentions earning as the first word and comment thrice. Your people may benefit from the detailed reason and guidance inside this guide. It was written three months ago so I have been advocating for comments for quite a while.

Steemit Earning Guide Series for Frustrated Minnows & Newbies - Comment, Comment, Comment!!!

I hope that people will benfit from your guide in combination with the guides I have mentioned and realize the importance of commenting; especially in the beginning of this journey.

Definitely please to vote and resteem this and follow you. :)

Hey @ilyastarar,

I've been following and reading your posts myself from time to time.

We have a lot of things in common as far as our blogs are concerned. How about we make a collab?

Haha A hour ago I replied to you and told you that one of the reasons a like you is that you are answering to all of the comments. Now you're posting a pretty good article about how commenting helps a newbie and everyone to improve their accounts.
On STEEMIT commenting and making discussions is as entertaining as reading to post itself.

And now I was doing my comment answering rounds and saw them both in a row... hehehehe
Stay cool man!

Honestly sir, this article is really help me. I couldn't think this method can really help the newbie like me until i finished to read this article. After i join steemit, i only think about posting and now, my mind has been open. Then, i would like to try this method from now on. Thanks sir and i would like to resteem this article.

Hello my friend! Thank you for the resteem and Im glad you took value from it!
Steem on! Cheers!

Great advice, Max. Well noted.

I need to up my commenting. Time's always a factor though. Perhaps I spend too much time faffing about on Discord. You're right though.

Cheers
Anj xx

Well, there's no better time to begin than now.

You're right. So here it is. Me catching up on my replies. XD

I average 17-25 comments a day and get about a dollar per comment on good days

Engagement is key to connecting and networking.

When you comment you are presenting your personal brand and you either get an uovote, best case is acquire a follower and worst case just ignored unless you are a spammer and then you deserve a flag.

Yeap.
The averages are really good as far as rewards are concerned if you consider the money received vs time spent.
Certainly better for people from developing countries who will earn Thousand times more here than in those low paying data entry jobs.

Wow, you must read super fast to be able to comment that much! This is some great info. I figure not many people are seeing me right now so I need to get out there and comment instead of spending all of my time on trying to write content. I have met some really nice people here so far that ive started talking to regularly, which is awesome! After 3 weeks on here I finally feel like im getting the hang of it :)

Yeah, networking is vital here. You do the right thing by investing in commenting.
I am a master skimmer :P

Great post, thank you. I'm new to steem and was starting to slow down on my commenting because of not seeing results, this gives me confidence that I just need to keep going!

Yeah!
It adds up man, don't give up things will get better.

100 comments? You're a machine! Seriously though, commenting is helpful in so many different ways. Especially when starting out, it's more important than writing articles. You need to get some content out so people have a chance to see what you're about, but the comments get your name out there. $0.28 each? Not bad!

And 0,28 is a low average because of the bad week Im having.
Normally it goes higher.

Commenting has definitely filled the holes for me when I don't have much to write about. Although I don't think I can comment that much in a day lol, I would run out of things to say. It has only done good in all those elements you mentioned. I think its great that you are putting this out there for the new people to know. xx

Thanks, glad to see you making your commenting rounds :P
Cheers Foxy

Trying to, I have quite a bit to catch up on! As well as my house work lol. Cheers xx

I want to try that challenge of at least going for 30 comments a day but the time is of the essence. Nevertheless I 'll try to increasing my comments on a daily basis. Thanks for this amazing information, I was pressure on what type of post to write that may attract whales, so good stuffs!

Thanks!
If you feel daunted with 30, try to go for 20, but make it consistent!

Alrighty then!
20 a day will be, challenge accepted!
Regards, :)

You told me before how important commenting is and I do, when I got the feeling to say something about an article!
But it‘s hard to find one‘s to comment because on the „new“ articles page most of the articles are spam and/or bullshit
Got and advice for that?

On the article I linked (the one past payout that I said not to bother voting) I go over how I pick comments.

I mostly avoid spam and bot posts, and go for organic ones only. Then I also look at time posted and reputation.

Okay, thanks a ton!
You really are enrichment for the steemit community (especially for the newbies)!
Will check out this post now :)

I do not try and get the most money here, but it's nice when I get a bit, but a feel like my comments are get very rare got some. Maby its me, most likely it is its a science fore sure..

You need to be consistent and develop your own method, once you have your routine set up it gets easier.

so... what are your metrics for what you will comment on. when I go out browsing steem posts, it takes a lot of time to find particular kind of posts that I'm looking for, and often, even if it's an interesting post with content that I wanted to read, I just don't have anything to say.

I'd be interested to know a bit more about your methodology.

As to metrics for what I will comment on, you can read this passage from my advanced commenting guide.

When you don't have anything to say... think outside the box.

Heck once I wrote a short story on a post I didnt know what to say about and got a $7 upvote on it.

Very nice. I will try to follow the advice. I'm member of the brazillian/portuguese community and write in portuguese, should I comment in international posts too?

Well, as you write in Portuguese I'd comment in Portuguese publications only.
Se estiveres a comentar em posts de pessoas que nao falam portugues elas depois vao ao teu blog e nao fazem nada. Usa as tuas energias para comentar em pessoal influente da comunidade PT e BR.
Abraço!

Definitely helpful advice for fellow newbies such as myself.

After reading multiple posts with this same opinion and how it has worked out for others I will definitely keep in mind commenting posts with valuable info that deserve feedback!

Continue writing valuable and good content! n.n

Thanks, will keep on working hard every day ;D

OK, I'll try. Here's a comment.

Thanks. Much profit.

Oh ma gad, this is great information for me, since I'm starting out this week, and I didn't want to comment too much because I didn't want to feel like a creep or something LOL. But I'll get to commenting now, thanks for this info!

Yeah don't you worry about that and comment away :D

At some point I Started averaging 40 to 50 then i lost steem. Your post is a galvanizer and reinvigorating. Thanks.

Now that's a great average as well... no doubt it helped you, you could probably benefit from getting on that routine again :D

Hi @spiritualmax
comments here is the easiest way to earn. Indeed, it was you who once showed an example of successful commenting to many other users. You started your way here with commenting.
I believe that it is the commenting that creates communication between users and allows you to find like-minded people and primary support.
Ура

Indeed Franky!
I only noticed you have a meditating avatar as well heheheh!
Nice choice :P

I'm interesting in learning more about commenting here. I am a newbie but finding how Steemit works to be fascinating! Will check some of your suggested links. Thanks!

You do well, it's the most profitable thing to do for you.
Cheers

@nutinbutdatruth - wasnt i just telling you that I think commenting can help us grow? Thank you for sharing this post (and proving me right, lol)

No worries, you are indeed RIGHT!

Comment like a madman! I think this has become my other hobby (aside from upvoting tons and tons).

Careful, dont go around depleting your VP :P

Copy. lol I better let it rest for a few days maybe.

Newbie here! Thank you so much for the advise!

No Problem-
Cheers!

Thank you for sharing this tips. I will give it a try :))

No Problem!
Cheers

Wow, Thanks for this. I didn't know it was so important. I must go comment away~

It's great when you've spent time on a post to get feedback and discussion so commenting works all round. Both for the author and commenter. Engagement is the key!

I agree and endorse that opinion! Have a great day!

Thanks for this. Helpful and informative.

Thanks post good

I am try to comment as much as I can but my average is still so low.
Thanks for the reminder :)
