STEEM is not owned by Steemit Inc. I agree that Steemit website is crap.
@ned is only a CEO of Steemit Inc which again doesn't own STEEM
There are other interfaces to STEEM blockchain. Some are small and some are rather popular. Eventually there will be a version of every popular style of social media front-end (website or app) that will be upgraded by different companies. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, for example will compete with similar versions that utilizes STEEM network as the central data storage. In addition to those interfaces, there are interfaces are completely unique. There will also be interfaces that haven't been built yet.
I have a suggestion, If you don't like Steemit website but like STEEM, then look around for a different interface. If none of them are to your liking, you can collaborate with web developers to create a new interface that has better filters to eliminate the crap you don't want to see. For instance, Steemit (website) uses a trending page. It has been abused to the point where people use paid voting services to put themselves on the trending page. You can build an interface where you use a different filter to rank posts. I know not everyone is a programmer or web developer, but you could see that many different versions can pop up. Eventually, better interfaces will be available. Give it some time.
Your STEEM account keys will give you access to all these interfaces. In addition, unlike Facebook or other social media sites, you own your STEEM account and no-one can deny you access to your account, delete your account, block traffic, or change your account from a free account to one that has a recurring fee.
