Three days ago i was just chilling on Poloniex, watching how my SYS coins were doing. As always my eyes were glued to the trollbox - you have to know that i am a professional troll ;D - wasting my time. The other trolls were hyping FCT, LISK, NXT and some other cryptos. At some point the first person said something like "guys, what is going on with Steem?!".
Steem? Altough i have almost 1 year crypto currency experience, i had no idea what Steem is. I think the main reason why i was never interested in Steem was because Poloniex, which did never add Steem, is the only exchange i used to that point.
More and more people were hyping Steem in the trollbox - the MODs had to urge them every 2 minutes to calm down. I was annoyed as hell, till i entered coinmarketcap.com and saw how high Steem was (and still is). 300 million USD?! What?! how could i miss such a coin?!
I immediately started researching. What is Steem? What is Steemit? The whole concept confused me a bit to be honest. Steem, Steem Power, Steem Dollars....
After a while i understood more and more how Steemit works and - and that is the much more important fact - how much potential Steemit has.
So i tried to create an account... steemit was offline. The next day i tried it again and it worked. I planned to create my first blog post... not possible. I thought i would be just stupid not being able to figure out how to submit a story. After two hours trying everything possible i gave up. The next morning i tried it again, and finally it worked!
So i created many blog posts with articles i wrote the last 2 years. I waited for up votes, but there were not that many. I was a bit annoyed because in every forum everybody told how many up votes he had gained in not more than two hours. My articles were online for more than 5 hours and i had for every article max. 3 up votes. And one of these three up votes came from myself :D
So i tried to figure out why it was not working so fine for me. The texts i wrote were political articles, written in very formal language. I asked myself if i would vote such articles up. Hell yeah i would! :D but i realized that i am maybe not the normal steemit user.
So i went through the trending steemit posts and... i was shocked... i was depressed. I really thought that people would read political articles but the TOP posts were women doing yoga and a guy who made a make up tutorial :D
I couldnt believe that things like that would be voted up. I felt like our society is totally bleeeeeped. So what could i do in that moment? I wrote a short text about it how Steemit shows us the ugly face of our society. It didnt took me longer than 4 minutes.
Suddenly this little text had 20 up votes! It was a pretty big step for me. Then i realized that you can be successful with substance. You dont have to be a clown, you just have to be real. Write what you think, how you think it, and it will work!
I know i write this text like an succesful business man telling about how he cleaned dishes in his youth. All that what i am telling is just from a few hours ago! crazy :D
24 hours since my first blog post are almost over and i was already pretty sucessful on Steemit. This text should be a little introduction too, so i want to tell a bit what i am planning to do on Steemit.
I am a normal guy from germany who does not believe in hedonism. What i mean by that is that i dont need more goods than the basics (water, food, clothing) to be happy. My plan is to make this world to a better place. So i want to educate myself and other people with my steemit blog and if i make a bit money i want to donate the biggest part to people who need it. There are great projects for example the water project (https://thewaterproject.org/donate-bitcoin). I would really appreciate if you would donate a small part of your steemit earnings or your trade profit (i think many steemit users are trading with (other) cryptos) to it :)
I love Steemit and i think it could become one of the biggest projects the internet has ever created. Maybe it is already one of the biggest projects the internet has ever created, but it has much more potential :)
I hope you enjoyed this little text, i would be very happy if you could help me by giving me your vote :) #HaveFun
Thanks for taking your time to write out your personal experiences here. I too found the front page to be a little strange and unexpected. It gave me the first impression that all the content on the site is superficial.
I clicked on new posts though (where I found this one), and was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of really good content. As the system matures, I think it could turn into something really special.
