Well, of course they can, but it's a nice headline. I keep watching the visitor numbers for Steemit on Hypestat and it just passed this milestone. The Alexa rank should drop below 9000 by tomorrow. This is the highest I've seen it.
It was ranked around 9000 last October before dropping, but it's been a steady climb up the charts lately.
In various countries it will be in the top 2000 now or soon.
I do have concerns about sign-ups. The number per day seems fairly erratic. If they can keep it in the thousands per day then we will see massive growth, but it looks like some people are still waiting days for their account to be validated. Chart from Steemdata.
Of course the healthy Steem price is helping to attract attention. I worried that it was getting boosted too much and would fall again, but it's staying high for now. I suggest people keep on powering up for now to gain influence. Maybe keep some of the SBD you get liquid to sell off or buy stuff if you like. Steem Dollars are worth about US$2!
It's all looking good for now. Keep on Steeming on!

Mine cryptocurrency in the cloud at Eobot, including Steem. You can earn as you chat using WowApp. If you use these links I get a small reward. You can recruit others to do the same.
I have been promoting Steemit like mad to investors.
The waitlist is definitely an issue. I'm not sure its purpose.
Is it a scaling concern? Are they manually vetting new sign ups?
This is the main thing that bothers me. The product is otherwise great.
They want to limit 'fake' accounts as those can take names people want and will use up their available SP for new accounts. I hope they can make it more automated. Just need to find ways that work for everyone. Not all have a Facebook account, but I guess a mobile phone is standard now. I would think they could exploit that other sites have validated people already. Doing it manually will not scale up. We need to reach millions of users to really get noticed and taken seriously.
Interesting stats! I honestly expected steemit to be getting more than 50k uniques in a day, it's still quite young. Imagine what happens when content is ranked much better in Google search results, should bring a massive influx of interest.
My account took about 12 hours to get approved for reference.
Thanks for sharing @steve. Still feel strange when I meet people who don't know Steemit. It will be well known soon.
It's not getting much media coverage. I hope the Steemit marketing team have something planned to change that
What's crazy is that I'm new and this reminds me of Twitter's early days. All the way up to "hey this guy is going to use Twitter to create a seven-figure business."
However, throw in the blockchain and cryptocurrency and people get confused AF and are all like "what???"
Good post.
Cheers. It is very different to anything else out there. People don't understand where the money comes from, but it's really just like Bitcoin and that is widely accepted
That's all great news! I've been talking to a lot of friends about joining up, but a lot of them are still pretty skeptical I guess... Their loss though! I'm still trying to get through to a few people, because I feel they would be GREAT additions to the community.
The more cool people we have here the more attractive it will be. There's really nothing to lose by signing up. Even just commenting can make you something.
Got my girlfriend, @cryptomomma, to sign up. She's already made about $30 on her introduction post in less than 24 hours!
I now have a debit card from https://bitpay.com, which is going to make it very easy to prove to people they can earn money in the real world with this.
I'm looking to get a debit card soon and I'll be sure to post about that when I do
bitpay is a great option! Only costs $10 to order the card, and I just withdraw SBD to poloniex, then deposit BTC to my account on bitpay. Easy peasy, and my money can be withdrawn from an atm usually within 30 minutes.
Not sure if they operate in the UK. Bitwala do and you can deposit steem directly to your account. Just need to sort some ID docs for them
Nice. I'll have to look into that one too. Always looking for better options as far as fees and ease of use.
This is more like reddit than fb so target is different
I enjoy the estimated site value ($226k) which assumes we are monetizing using CPC or CPM. Little do they know that blockchain tech is worth 20 times that :)
They assume everyone relies on ads. This is one of the reasons I was attracted to steemit. I don't think ads scale for a site like this
It's always intereting to see these stats. The sign ups is an issue but on the other side of the coin it does somehow make an Account more desirable and valuable.
Thanks for sharing mate
Always wait for your update

Have a graet weekend
True ..how many steem it accounts so far? If you think about steemit has to grow better than facebook because every one is a stake holder!!!! But my biggest gripe is about the clutter....This needs to be much simpler and straightforward...
184000 accounts according to https://steemd.com/
Thanks for sharing, but hey, that's not the dutch flag!! lol.
I didn't notice that. It looks like the Argentinian flag. Oops
lol. I think you are right!
i had some website 503 errors today, so in some ways scaling up the users i think makes sense. here comes everybody! :) - thank you for spending the time making these stats.
I love that data, thank you.
Upvoted and followed!
It would be a chill ride when ad sponsors would come although steemit is not relying on them. really comforting
People can put ads on their posts and I've seen some do so, or at least have affiliate links. I do those myself for a couple of things. It's up to the users if they want this
Interesting post
Not so interesting comment. Sorry, but I don't vote up generic comments
Yes, thank you
I try to get a better comment later
