Delegation's what you need

in #steemit7 years ago

As the year draws to a close I'm thinking about what I can do to help Steemit. It's not all about what you can take from it. I do okay anyway thanks to the following I've built over the last year or so. I'm very grateful for the support I get and this is my way of paying back. Holding Steem Power gives you several advantages:

  • You can give bigger rewards with your vote
  • You earn more in curation from those votes
  • You can delegate to others

The second of these may be over-emphasised. My curation rewards are a fraction of what my posts make, so I don't mind if they drop a bit. For some time I have been delegating SP to people I trust to use it well. Basically I am letting other people use my SP. I lose the use of it until I claim it back (which takes 7 days to avoid double voting), but they gain the first two advantages above. Unlike some others I do not charge anything for this. I just cannot maximise my voting to help others, so I let others do it on my behalf.

I use Vessel to do this. It makes it very simple. There are alternatives out there. Initially I used the Steemit Python libraries to write scripts, but this is much more convenient. Values are given in 'Vests'. I think there are about 2000 of those to one Steem at the moment. Most of these are people I got to know on Steemit or outside it plus some services I think do some good. I trust them to use it well.

You can see who is delegating to whom on Steemreports. Some of the whales are delegating massive amounts. It's interesting to see how that gets used. You can also see how people are voting. I don't mind if my delegatees do some self-voting as long as they also vote for others. We need a wider spread of voting to encourage more people to keep posting. I don't want to see it all going to those on the trending page. They shouldn't worry too much about curation rewards as that will still not be much generally.

I will be reviewing my delegation periodically to see if it's being well used. I encourage these people to vote freely for whatever they see that is good. Give some to new accounts that show promise. They can flag spam if they want as that should be discouraged. What I have given has given some people access to the vote slider so they can given even more votes.

This is an exciting time for Steemit. It's rising on Alexa and Steem is doing well. Next year could be when it all really takes off with the hardfork 20 changes to account creation and other features. As millions of people flock here we need to help them out with our votes.

If you have thousands of SP then I encourage you to delegate some.

I welcome any questions you may have, but please don't beg for delegation from me. I will only give it to those I know well and trust.

Steem on!

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars

If this post is over seven days old you can vote up one of my newer posts to reward me.

I am very keen on accumulating Steem Power at the moment. I was hoping to reach my Dolphin 5K target by 31 December.

Less than a hundred SP short but blockchain.info (or the banks) has now blocked both my debit cards to buy the remainder. Just trying to find another route to purchase the rest by tomorrow...

Delegating is a very good way to go if you don't the time to do a lot of manual curation. Nearly all the delegatees I have seen are doing very good work.

My little challenge at the moment is to visit everyone of my followers to see if they are still alive and give them an upvote if they are still active. This is proving a fascinating task.

And now to make it even more of a challenge I am visiting every one of the nearly 300 homesteaders and preppers on the list I maintain. Hopefully I can bring back a few that have drifted away from steemit and help improve the retention rate.

I hope you reach your goal. I've been accumulating SP, but thought it could be doing more good for more people. If a time comes when I need the money then I can cash some out.

Thank you Steve. I see the 5k SP point as a personal marker for me to show commitment to the platform and to allow me to give a more useful level of voting support particularly to newer steemians.

Whenever I see a decent post with little or no reward I try to give it some vote reward regardless of whether it is a subject of interest to me or not. I remember from my early days how discouraging it can be when you have spent a couple of hours or more putting together a good post only to see it disappear into the void.

I was hoping I might get to 14k this year, but may be slightly short. It's just a number. I've been piling on the SP lately

Yeah lately I have been doing just a little bit better. But I am more worried with others than me. (as per usual) yesterday for the 1st time i have delegated to another member and today I am just waiting for a couple of my posts to receive their rewards and that will be invested in some more delegation to other members I really appreciate and that I know work really hard but are not getting as many views as they deserve. 😁

@steevc I think what you are doing to help STEEMIT Grow is a Very Good Thing. I will consider doing some delegation in the Future but right now I am just going to keep on adding to my STEEM power !

Nice initiative @steevc, though I think you may have opened the 'delegate to me please' floodgates!

P.S. Please delegate to me ;)

P.P.S. I like your post, follow me, I follow you. ha ha ha

I see you have delegated already. I think you deserve some back to you. If nothing else it increases your vote on my posts :)

You scratch my back...

Well if you do delegate @steevc, my delegation is to minnowbooster which does give me a payback, so Im not as altruistic as you sir.

I'd like to see more SP being delegated to those who support Steemians who produce quality content. @thehumanbot, @humanbot, @qurator, @thesteemengine, to name but a few. Besides being a rallying point for creators and giving rewards via upvotes, they shine a light on posts that are worth viewing. There have been too many times when I heard my fellow minnows complain that they can't find good content where they can properly engage with people.

I've not been aware of those accounts. I think it's better to deal with less bot-like accounts. Steemit should be mainly about people. People can curate by re-steeming and writing about those they enjoy.

As their names imply, @thehumanbot and @humanbot are humans who upvote posts that have been recommended to them once they check them for quality. They're actual curators who are motivated to provide the kind of service that you've written about - providing good upvotes for good posts.

@thesteemengine encourages engagement and gives one upvote per day to members who upvote and make thoughtful comments on the posts of two other members. Junk posts aren't tolerated, so the engagement has to be genuine.

That's good then. I'll keep on supporting my set of delegatees for now

I do think 2018 has the potential to be a great year around here... and it makes me happy that more people are engaging in "responsible" delegations. I realize it's probably less work for some of the big whales to just lease their SP to someone running a "scambot" service than finding responsible manual curators... but it's better for the site in the long run to support engagement.

It'll be interesting to see what "Communities" bring, if they ever get them launched.

Just a few days here and yet I found another great option. Hope Steemit will continue grow on popularity, I'll save this post for the date I can delegate to help others too :)

It's been available for a long time, but many don't understand how it works. I see it as a very useful tool to help the community.

Awesome attitude to take. Steem needs more community minded users such as your good self.

Thanks for the heads up on delegation @steevc, as it is something I am still trying to get my head around. I am also trying to understand the whole bot voting thing, as I thought it is supposed to be about the quality of the posts. Maybe I'm just very naive :)

Amazing state of mind to take. Steem needs greater group disapproved of clients, for example, your great self.

if i can get deligation from you to help newbie steemian join in my village

As I said, I have to build trust with someone first.

I hope you can trust me, because by voting power that I have now I am always overwhelmed in voting for beginners in my village which is growing day by day

resteemed

But what do you think?

Agree with you that will be great job to help them! @steevc

its impressive step on for steemit platform and few question are arround in my mind that is

  1. how someone get the deligation power.

  2. deligation SP could be used for votting to as per my own choiceable steemian.

  3. may i used to upvote for own article.

  4. can i variable to votting power strength with slide bar as atleast 500SP need to do that.

  5. can i get SP & SBD after votting my own blog & curation.

i joined here just few month ago and still learning about steemit.

You get delegation if someone chooses to give it to you. They may set conditions on what you do with it. You get all the curation rewards from it.

Nice initiative

i'm wondering about where's the best place to buy a delegations with a huge amount. well, i've been take a look at blocktrades service but they didn't offered 100 steem for 10,000SP delegations anymore. it's now get lower becoming about 140SP delegations for 100 steem. any idea about this? ^^

I'm not interested in buying or selling delegation. Better to find someone who will do it for free, but you have to prove yourself worthy.

oh.. nice, i asked for an opinion then got the answer with an advice Lol.
thank's a lot, i always try to learn it more and increasing my english skill
but, everything is need a process ;)

You are free to buy delegation, but it may not be worth the cost

Thanks for giving the chance to enjoy this beautiful news!!

Mediocre comment. Be honest about what you think

Not such a good comment. Do you have any thoughts?
