New words from the Steemisphere

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I've noticed that some of the new users who probably don't speak much English tend to copy what others do and so various oddities have been spreading.

Some I've seen are :

  • 'thanks for shearing'. Obviously aimed at the shepherds
  • 'resteemit' but often they don't,so they don't even understand what they are trying to write

I appreciate that writing in another language is hard and I'm bad at it too. I'm just lucky that English is such a dominant language here. Maybe that will change as Korea and India gain users on here.

As I've said previously you should not just comment for the sake of it. Generic and/or irrelevant comments may be ignored or flagged. Engage with the content that interests you. Look for people who speak your native language and consider using translation tools to check what you are saying otherwise. Your comments may only get a glance, so try to make a good impression.

I'm here for genuine discussion, not just to make money.

Steem on.

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars

I was searching on google what comment should i give in a reply to these commentphant!! And this page was ranked in the second position on google.
They are so irritating always posting their blog links in the comment section.
What should i reply to these commentphants!! Can you please help meThanks @steevc

My main recommendation is to make comments that are relevant to the post. Don't beg for anything. If your comments are interesting then people may follow you. Look for posts on topics that interest you and where you may be able to help out. Make it interesting for you and don't just chase the money. You need to add value if you want to earn.

You are always helpful in clearing the doubts related to steemitThanks you so much @steevc

'gain used' in a post about language skills :-)

Not even sure what they are trying to say

No. It was you that mis-typed 'gain used'

Ah. I do need to double check stuff from my phone

Well said... Often you also see this kind of comments right the first minute (excluding mine of course ;) ) ...

@steevc, Thank you for your good suggestion. I am trying my best to improve English. Really you are a lucky person that you have gotten English as dominant language. Really i am so weak in English . When i joined in steemit . On that time i did't afraid commenting any post . Because on that time i did't know what is flagging or spamming . But now i am so afraid commenting in any post because of being flagging. If i do any wrong , Please forgive me.

Your English is good. Keep working on it

Thank you for your appreciation.

I have found that a lot especially "I follow you and you follow" this is getting out of hand. Usually I just don't reply to those comments but sometimes I will just flag the comment. I gets irritating because now you never know who likes your art and who just comments to get you to follow them.

@steevc I have seen a lot of Sheep Shearing lately too..............Maybe these young Shepherds can just follow Three Wisemen right into Bethlehem...........

There's a lot of copy-paste spam comments going on here on Steemit these days, and I think it all has to do with the fact that a some authors give them an upvote worth a few cents every once in a while.

They must think that they earn more about spamming hundreds of these types of comments without effort, compared to writing real and engaging comments. They are of course wrong - real comments obviously gives a better payout in the long term, and it is also a lot more fun for both the commenter and the author.

I hope Steemit gets popular in India. But the governments are still not open to cryptos which is kinda holding the Steemit promotion back.

Hope to see more users from India. I miss all the Indian news discussion here on Steemit. I think @firepower is doing a great job promoting Steemit in India by arranging meetups in various cities in India.

It should be open to all cultures. They can all benefit from this platform

This platform has huge potential and so does India. With such a huge population I think if Steemit becomes popular in India then we are going to see Steem at $10 for sure. What say ?

The nature of steemit may change. I just hope it doesn't get flooded with spam

Spam will definitely hit the platform when popular. But spam eventually dies down. Spammers never gets good rewards and eventually give-up.

Let's ensure they get nothing now

I was tempted to write

"Thanks for shearing"

It's early days for STEEMIT, as more genuine people join and they engage with people they know, they are less likely to act cheaply for the sake of an upvote.

Please upvote!!! (Just kidding)

Don't forget to have a little fun along the way. Spread the love

I knew someone would have a joke with this. At least it hasn't attracted any spam yet

The spammers will come, remember the early days of email? Spam everywhere and the internet was seen as a scary place by a lot of people.

Opinions will change. Just wait until the big media companies want to get some exposure on STEEM. Exciting times ahead

We may need new tools on steemit to deal with the spam if it gets too bad. I expect the whales suffer more than I do

The great thing about software is that it's easy to update. We just need a consensus on which direction to take.

I plan to invest more into steemit.

Very good post, I speak very little English and I help a lot with the translator and I try to understand what you say, it is very important to have good spelling in steemit!

Lol. That's so funny. "Shearing"
But brother we are not here to make fun of those people who don't speak English. It's totally not their fault. But I would like to recommend them to use translation tools for translating the text. That's one and the only solution to this problem. @steevc

I'm not making fun of them really. The issue is with those who just copy what others write without knowing if it's right. Be original, even if you make mistakes

Lmao @ sheep shearing. But what if the person is just happy for the information?

Also I don't know how easy it is to communicate. People seem to be kissing ass, no offense.

On the topic of literacy and quality of reviews are written a lot of posts, but even under these post we can see comments, examples of which you wrote) Sometimes it just pisses me off

I like you post.. very very good.. not forget follow and upvote me..

You don't get it. Votes are based on quality. This is regarded as spam
